I have a 98 zr2 with 75000 on it. Got it 3 months ago with a 3 yrs warranty. Last weekend i was driving home and the tranny felt like it was a manual with the clutch going out, but its an auto. Here was the trip, started out fine, stopped to get a pop, the tranny was messed, stopped to look at it, still messed once continued, stopped for gas, was fine once again. The truck had no power to the wheels (high revs no go), and would not sustain any speed in o/d. Took it to the dealership, they said they couldn't get it to do it again, but the engine code told them it was the maf sensor. That and i had a clogged cat. They covered no parts for warranty (cat was manufact wrnty, no charge there). Anyone tell me if the cat should fix that, or why my maf sensor would cause my truck to do that? I have noticed similar simptoms before after long trips, but never this severe. Any input by anyone as to what this could be would be much appreciated. Thanks

your 98 has an electronic transmission and it relies on input from other sensors to figure out shift points and what not. your maf sensor is a vital input sensor which would effect fuel, timing, and shift points.

so, would getting an aftermarket maf sensor fix the problem probably then? How much are aftermarket maf sensors anyways, cuz if they are going to charge me like 150 for the thing or something like that, i might as well make it do more for me.

either an aftermarket or factory maf will be fine. the aftermarket maf really is a waste of money. if your not modifying the ecm programming to the aftermarket maf then it is a waste of money and it wont do anything. it is more expensive as well.
