vacuum leak

OK so on the work today I started to hear a higher pitch noise.. kinda like an amp with a bad ground.. higher pitch... it makes this noise when the turbo starts to provide boost but if I accelerate like a puss it isn't there...yes I turned the stereo off just in case there was a bad ground...NOT IT... the more boost the higher the pitch... it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side somewhere between the BOV to firewall... I just spent about 30 mins or so checking all vac lines and intake pipes....which are all stock...all seem to be in good shape and are not dry and/or cracked. I was curious to know if evap canister can go bad and if that might be problem... if anyone has any suggestions feel free to tell away....
OH YEAH one more thing... when car is in drive and at a stop there is the same type of noise but only when brake is applied.. noise is constant pitch.
MAN, vacuum lines suck!!! lol sorry for the bad joke

Are you sure that the "high pitched noise" that happens when you get on the throttle isn't your turbo itself spooling? Are you familiar with the sound of your turbo spooling yet? How long have you had the car?

Uh... yeah... it's not the turbo!!! had the car for about 2 yrs and am VERY familiar with what the sound is LMAO 2 funE... the noise starts about 1-2 seconds after the spooling noise... whoooosh ...starts...kinda when psi gets up to certain pressure...gonna check out BOV and such right now...I talked to boostedspyder and have an idea what it might be... lol.. B back in a few

OK gone through the whole intake system...all is tight and everything "seems" to be in good condition
...really quick...what is that thing with two vac hoses going to and from underneath/behind TB? The "T" connection (hose with yellow dashes) has white residue on the end outside and little inside on the hose end? gonna clean it off... still goin through all hoses and all looks ok so far... be back in a few

Im actually having the same problem....I thought i put the bov gasket on wrong so i checked it today....still the problem is there....but yea it sounds like its coming from the passenger side and when you put a little throttle down like around 2500 rpms it makes the hissing noise, like the BOV wants to make the squish sound prematurely...I have no clue what it is.....useful post, but wanted to let you know you arent the only with this exact prob

could it be the BOV? some flange issues or spring gone bad? since that is right infront of the passenger side...?

My stock 2g bov leaked like crazy...try putting your ear down to the bov when the car is running. I bet you'll hear a quiet pssssssss even at idle. Since the UICP and 1g bov went on the car, no more pssss. Boost jumped from 12 psi to 17 with just the filter, UICP and bov.
Get rid of that 2g bov ASAP, and see if that fixes your problem. It is certainly worth the money even if your leak still exists.

yea i have a 1g man, not 2g....but yea its coming from that area....i have this other sound that i mentioned in another thread that sounds really fucking annoying at idle and it even makes the sound when you are driving....people mentioned it could be the ball bearing in the clutch or the belts....i think its another leak....cant wait to get my boost gauge...

for the leak tester....what exactly is the pcv inside diamater cap and how do you attach it to the cap....drill a hole and then what?

its your EGR valve...
did you check the hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold... its about 4"-5" long coming out of the back of the valve cover, with that off/cracked it has a high pitch sound from it sucking air!

eclipserst... you talkin the pcv valve and the hose? I put a new one in last fall... it's tight and looks good.
I'm pretty sure that the BOV is ok... this sound wasn't there the night before and in the morning it was there as soon as I hit the throttle... if I go off of the stock boost guage it starts about when the needle gets to the upper line(3/4 full) My needle still gets all the way to the top if I kick er down and I can feel that the boost is still there.. no feeling of power loss..
Metalhedskater said... "when you put a little throttle down like around 2500 rpms it makes the hissing noise, like the BOV wants to make the squish sound prematurely" but mine is almost identical to the sound of an amp with a really bad ground... whistle/whine noise that goes with RPM... but this noise only happens when the boost gets to a certain point and beyond... like the more boost the higher the pitch... I thought maybe the intake manifold might be leaking under certain pressure but again there is/has been NO power loss... I'm still getting about 0-60 in 6-7 seconds (tried today and it was 6.65 on my watch!!!! lol) guess i'll have to try the http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html
trick... when I took out the BOV to check it...I pushed up and it still had quite a bit of tension...
