I work at a spa as a spa host and have been working there for 6 months. About a month a a half ago a another female spa host was hired. Now here is the part I am iffy on the legality of my companies decision. I get paid 8.75 plus 1% commission. The female spa host I am talking about was hired as a spa concerige and is doing the same job I am doing but she get's 10 and hour plus 1% commsions. Now is this at all legal? We do the same amount of work as her but she gets paid a lot more.

WTF is that supposed to mean? I've been working longer than her. It's not a fact of being better. We do the same job. I empty laundry just liek she does. We do all the same things.

If she has some sort of training that would put her above the rest of you I could see a reason for the pay difference, If she has just started and it is not against company policy to dicuse your wages amongst other employees perhaps you should talk with your manager

I don'tthink you understand. Every spa host get's paid 8.75. That's what you get hired at. She was hired as a coniegre but she wasn't trained right away so they moved her to spa host and kept her concierge pay. There is no negotiatoing. I've talked to her and she has never dealt with a spa or anything liek it in her work. Even if you have had proir experience you still get 8.75.

Could be that she's a female. Or her qualifications may be deserving of $10. But I don't think there is anything illegal about it. The owner of the spa can pay as he chooses.

there are at lest 5 other female spa host the get paid 8.75. That is what it says in out handbook.

and you get 8.75!?!?!? where do i sign up, plus she is training for concierge. they usually pay you what you will be getting payed during your training, thats how it is

she hasn't even started training yet. She's been working just as hard as me. I"m full time and she is part time.

there's a lot more to it then that. I empty laundry at least 7 times a day and each basket wieghes 100lbs. I pull bins 1/2 a mile every day down to the docks so they can get taken to a cleaning company. I fill up the refrigerator when it ghets low. I make coffee. I hand out drinks. On top of all I have to see naked guys walk around all day. Now tell me my job is worth it. I see sausge all day and all i wanna do is go home and cry.

none of that work sonnds bad for nine bucks an hour, and heres a tip, if you see a naked man, YOU DONT HAVE TO LOOK AT HIS PENIS, or really at him at all. your friend probably maked 10 because thats the wage that they agreed on for her concierge position, and they didnt feel like renogotiating it while she is being a spa host for the time being. If you have a huge problem with it then quit, whos stopping you?

And you're crying because you get 8.75?
I know people that do a lot more than that for a lot less......

If you think theres something fishy, go to HR and see if you got a case. If it gets you fired then be happy that you don't have to do the work you do for the pay you receive. If your not happy with your leave, then you shouldn't have suspected any wrong-doing in the company

Raz is correct. Your supervisor may not know or care. Don't assume he or she does. You must stick up for yourself (in a tactful fashion)

You got it pretty darn easy. With the way your whinin i don't think you'd last an hour with what I do. What do I do? I look after horses and the property. I do everything from dragin arenas to shovelin. Start at 4 in the mornin work a few hours go to school then work till 7 or 8 at night.

it really isn't your business what other people are making in your workplace. it's up to the employer to choose the pay for each employee. of course its not illegal. it's perfectally legal, and thats what happens all the time :screwy:

man ur gettin 8.75? i get 8.46 and im a mechanic. wtf..i mean i kno that im pretty damn low paid for a mechacic but 8.75 to hand out keys and do laundry. im tellin u..just let it go...a battle between u vs. the corprate world. you will always loose.
