stuttering

I have a 2001 Mustang GT, and I have taken it in several times for this stuttering thing. What I mean by a stuttering this is this: when I'm going a constant speed, usually 50mph or under, it will stutter. Like it wants to shift but there's no where to shift to. Now this happens with the air conditioning off or on, and the overdrive off or on also. It's almost like it's mis-firing. I've taken it to the Ford Dealer just about 3 times about it. The first time they took it, they replaced the number 7 coil and plug. That didn't fix it. So I took it back, the next time they changed the fuel pump (which cost me $50.00, because the car's no longer under warranty, granted $50.00 is a lot better than $600, but still.) and they also replaced the number 1 coil and plug. Anyway, it still wasn't fixed after that. So I took it back again on Monday, and this time they cleaned the fuel injection system, and darn it it's still not fixed. She told me that they are coming out with a resetting program (Ford is I mean), that should fix it. But until they do come out with it, my car is as good as it's going to get. So yeah, does anyone have any idea's? If you do, it would be great if you could email them to me instead of posting them on here, because I don't tend to look back here pretty much EVER. A "resetting" program? I dont know WTF that is, but if it is in fact real, it sounds unecessary. Worst-case scenario you could have someone reflash your computer. Kind of like reinstalling Windows, only with a better chance of fixing something.

Did they scan for codes? Did they even reset the computer? Just disconnect the battery overnight(or even for an hour) and reconnect. It clears the learned memory and you start fresh.

Disconnect the neg battery terminal and let it sit for while with the key off. If you disconnect the pos terminal you risk spiking your computer, (atleast thats what a co-worker told me). But yes like speedfreak said it clears the memory the car has learned. After you have reset the computer take it for a drive. It may act a little funny or different for a few minutes but this is because it is re-learning everything. I would suggest a good long (maybe 30min) ride on different kinds of roads, speeds, and traffic and see if it helps any. This way you will know you have covered all bases and maybe it re-learned lost memory and found a counter or a fix for your problem. I hate computers. The only way my truck would quit throwing codes was to drive it for 45 min up through the mountains and come back the small winding backroads and make a trip through town.

The EPA and CAFE standards. Auto manufacturers probably have deals going with electronics manufacturers to implement yet more sensors and computers. Ie, more suff you cannot fix yourself.

I saw a video a while back for several different cars and manufacturers. I think it was Mercedes that had a couple hundred computers, sensors, whatever. One of the was supposed to unbuckle your seatbelt, roll your windows down, and call the highway patrol with some kind of oncar thing is you just so happened to run off the road and end up in a lake. So, I'm thinking this is great....someone is gonna buy one of these cars, hydroplane and run off the road into the median. Meanwhile, they are gonna get thrown out of their seat, get soaking wet, and get a careless and reckless driving ticket. All because an engineer had way too much time on his hands. I work on cars all day long and cant help but wonder how many automotive engineers are in protective custody...
