96 Trans Am with Coolant leaking

It looks like coolant is leaking somewhere around where the right side of the waterpump hooks on to the block. It is not coming out of the weep hole in the pump but almost looks like it is coming from around front of the block and running down the pass side of the water pump. How hard is it to put a water pump on one of these things. It has the LT1 in it. Do you do it from the bottom or top of the car?
Thanks!

from what ive heard from a couple guys that have done it, its not too difficult. i would imagine that most of the work would be done from the top, but im sure you'll have to make the occasional trip to the floor on a project like that...

consider the following:
To get the pump out you will need to remove:
[1] The fans (they are held in with 4 sheet metal screws
[2] the air pump and its bracket ( it shares a common stud with the water pump)
[3] air intake plumbing
There are 6 bolts holding the water pump in place. I have tried to short cut removal of the listed items. Trying to put the wp back in place with the sealant on is most difficult in the cramped space.
If you have more than 100k miles, consider replacement of the opti-spark distributor while you are in there. ( you will need to pull the harmonic balancer also)
My experience on the water pump.... 50% from above, 50% from below.

I lucked out and it was not the water pump. I started to tear into it and found it was the heater hose that goes in from the top. It was leaking down the water pump and I just could't tell that's what it was. So it is fixed. Thanks for the info.
