how hard is it too swap out the manifolds to headers? i got the 3.0 and it looks like the front is easy but was wondering just how hard it was to change the rear and what all needs removed to do it? also, will a highflow cat make any difference if i swap it out with the cat while i'm already swaping part of the exhaust? oh, btw, is amss a good name of header?

when you say the rear manifold, are you talkin about the one thats on top of the engine up near the windshield? a high flow cat should give you a few horsepower. yes amss is a good name for headers

i was just talking about the exhaust manifolds which the headers replace. the rear exhaust manifold looks like it would be hard to get to. would i need to remove any other parts to replace it?

it was to my understanding that we only have one exhaust manifold. the one that connects to the cat. so i really dont know what the rear exhaust manifold is. maybe i just dont know what im talkin about

i have a six cyclinder engine that has 2 separate exhaust manifolds (front of engine compartment, rear of engine compartment)

where is this rear one located? just for reference. i know one is right infront of the valve cover. like you look down and there they are. i was just wondering where the other one way

the one you can see from the front of the car like you said bolts to the front 3 cyclinders, but the other one bolts to the rear 3 cyclinders close to the firewall

AMSS is not the best name for the headers. The best name is Hytech, but those can be pricey at $1300. Same with RippMods, whose headers are $1200. But gains from those 2 systems are from 30-40whp depending on how you tune them. And yes, your car WILL need to be tuned to extract maximum power and not throw SES codes.

so what do you think the gains will be like on the amss headers (w/ proper tuning of course)? also, is it pretty easy to swap the rear manifold out?

I have talked to people who have done it, and it is not the easiest thing in the world to do.
The AMSS headers with tuning will gain you about 23whp.

I think taking the RIPPmod to a shop would be the best way to go.

do you have to tune when u replace just the downpipe and/or a cat?

not from my understanding. i think it's just from the headers cause they increase flow and change the spot of the front 2 o2 sensors

you shouldnt even touch the cat. mitsubishi's cats are already really good. replacing it would not justify anything. it would just be a lost of power, and an increase of noise pollution. you may even loose hp. your engine needs a certian amount of backpressure to opperate properly.

true, but mine is cali spec. it had 3 separate cats. now it has only one and i noticed a nice difference in power when i changed everything. the cat i have now is still breaking down pollution enough not to throw a ses light for lack of the catalyst's breakdown. don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to argue with you. i had a cavalier that the high flow converter #$%@ed up and lost all horsepower cause of. it seems to work well with my spyders application though.
