We have a 93 gt grand am with a 3.3L that was driving and shifting just fine one minute and then it sputtered twice and died while we were driving down the road. It cranks over just fine but there is no spark. We placed the crankshaft position sensor and it started up just fine twice but on the second attempt, it sputtered and died after reving up the engine. Now we are back to square one again. It cranks fine but will not start...not even try to. I have heard that there is a reprogram process you have to go through in some cars if you replace the crankshaft position sensor. Could we have messed up the new one if we did not go through this process? After the car not starting with a new cps, we replaced the coils and ignition module but it didn't do a thing. OK, first of all, I think it was the ignition module. It is the unit that is located directly underneath the three coils in the engine compartment. Is that the ignition module...and if it is....any ideas on what we need to do next. We are about to pull our hair out cause this car has been so dependable and reliable up to now. Thanks for your responses.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect. That will reset the ecu.

hey we figured out the problem it was the tps(throttle position sensor). i replaced it and then wiggled the wires coming out of the plug and it started right up and runs great.
