A short ram cold air intake...

I was on carbontrix website the other day and noticed they had some nice hood vents and ducts. My question is, would a short ram intake with a duct for cold air produce more hp than say an AEM CAI?

Also I know you can hydrolock your engine if your cai sucks in a bunch of water from a puddle but would your intake suck in water if you had the short ram with an air duct, it wouldnt be getting puddles of water thrown at it but it would be getting some rain in there. Would that be bad for it? I know i can install a bypass filter but i just wanted some opinoins.

Thanks!

a short ram intake will not hyrdolock your engine.. unless theres a flood and you decide to drive in it..
youll be fine
vents in hoods jus help release heat from teh engine bay

Ya know, you could just get an AEM CAI with an air bypass vavle. Or just don't go driving in a lake.

Well im not talking about a vent to release air, im talking about a scoop to suck air in, directly in front of a short ram. And would the rain getting in the scoop be a problem?

I got a cai. Wasnt really happy with the gain.

yes it will. you can actually produce a ram-air effect with this, and create the same effect forced induction has, just on a smaller scale.

youll have to attach something to carry the air through and into teh engine...
ive seen it done... but itll be long.. cause when you open your hood.. the "piping" has to extend with the hood..... so you dont have to detach it everytime

Thanks for the posts, i think im going to give it a go and see how it works. Would the rain then not be a problem? or should i have a bypass just in case?

you dont need to direct the air directly into the engine with a pipe or something.

a simple hole in the hood/bumper would be fine. rain would not be a problem, just keep the opening slightly away from the intake. a little rain never hurt an engine, its when you get enough rain that the piston cannot reach TDC that you have a problem.
