Need help pimpin out the car with neons, but eclipses are different

I've been working at circuit city for 2 and a half months now and i felt the urge to trick out my eclipse. Now i thought of an idea the other day to wire neons into my car, i want it so that when i open my doors, my car pimps out and goes BLING! but the installers at my job told me it's hard work and it's gonna need a crap load of relays because in our eclipses, when the door pin is pressed, it's at 12 volts, but when the car door opens, it drops it down to 0 volts which makes the domelight turn on, so it has a negitive effect than other cars. now can anyone figure out another way i can wire these things into our cars? i thought about wiring it through my domelight, so the domelight is the "switch", i don't know much about electronics so i don't even know if thats possible. Thanks guys!!

Why are you attempting a special project if you have no idea how to do it? Yes, you could wire a relay to activate from the dome light, and turn on your lights. Find a friend that knows how to do this if you really want it done.

all you have to do is find a light that turns on when you open your door and splice the neon wires into it. pretty simple

Well i can spice the nons off my domelight, but does it have enough current to run four 15" neons?? also i've watched installers work on cars before so i somewhat know what i'm doing, but of course i'll have people watch over me before i do something like that.

Go ask the ricers in the honda forums... they seem to know a good deal about neon, and bodykits. Ive talked to a couple of guys there that said they saw 20 whp just by adding neon under the chassis so they must be doing something right...

you know that little button that makes the chimes come on when the door is open. buy another, or tap into that. using that as your central relay.

the guy asked a simple question and he gets told to goto the honda forum. honestly whats wrong with neons? i think its a cheap effective way of making something remotly unique. Ill admit i had underbody neons on my eclipse and i got alot of comments about how nice they looked.
george, im failing to see the "lots of work" its really simple to hook up four neons. Me and my buddy installed all 4 of my underbody neons with wireless remote in under and hour. I should add neither of us had ever done underbody lights before buts its fairly straight forward.

all you gotta do is tap into the wires goin to either the lights under the dash or the domelight and they will work just fine! my suggestion is to just cut the wires (with the doors closed so you dont blow a fuse) and just wire them straight to the neons and not use a dome light or floor lights... its very simple to do and you just need to know which wire is positive and which one is negative!

if you have an alarm with an auxiliry button, tap it into their, so you can use your alarm to turn them on or off. that way when your alarm goes off, your neons will flash just like your head lights.

I would not splice 4 15" inch neons to anyone light. Its too much power. Dont be lazy and take the extra time to run the power to the battery and put in a switch to control them. If you splice 4 neons to one wire or even 2 for that matter you will be pulling way too much power through the line and will melt your wires. Have fun re running your electrical system if that happens.

neons hardly draw any power at all!!! you will not melt your wires if you hook neons up to them... even if you hook them all up to just one set of wires, say the dome light wires... THEY WILL NOT MELT. :)

Yea, I would listen to Jake when it comes to neons, since he IS the biggest closet ricer here ;)

EclipseRTS got a great point, i can just wire them to my floor lights because i can still use my regular domelights if i have to read, but i noticed something, if i open my passanger door, my floor lights do not come on. so is that the way the cars are made or is it just mine?? i have a 96 RS. also, i have no problem cutting my floor lights then wiring them directly to my neons, but i would rather have a wire coming from my battery so that if i do wanna go with more lights and a undercar kit, i can. so is there a way i can wire this so i can hook my floor light wires into a switch, and when current runs throught it (when i open my door), it will activate my neons.

The door switches are really crappy and that is from the mouth of a very knowledgeable mitsu mek a nik... both of mine are in the state of working when they want to!!! not that I care... and Jake is right.. neons don't require a lot of power... I've got the neons on my seat covers tied into just one of the boxes that are supposed to control just one seat so both seats flash together/same time with the music.. pretty sic yo.. If you are still concerned about wires melting just keep an eye on them... like leave your door open for 20 mins and keep feelin the wires... hook two neons up to driver side floor light and two up to passenger side... best way to learn is just to do it methodically and with caution... my 2 cents

spray some wd40 on your door switch for the passenger side they get sticky and stop working sometimes

Nope.. i've taken both out and they both move freely... it's almost like it pushes out too far and loses contact... mitsu went kinda cheap when makin the switches ... I have the garage door opener in the sunvisor..when it went bad it caused my fuse to blow out constantly... went to mitsu to find out why and at same time asked mek a nik about the door switches and he told me they were kinda chinsey/cheap... after taking them out I agree. If I push in on the button just a little lights come on but as soon as I let off they go out.... anyway!!! thats not what this post is about!!! lmfao i'll shut up now lol

i agree with spyderman. Try different ways but be careful about it. Pretty much everything i know about car audio and elec stuff is from trial and error. I remember the first time i installed my own subs i blew the starter....was not fun...lol

Guys, you should always use a relay when adding anything to the factory wiring. Do any of you actually know what the true amperage is that the neons have? Do you know what's all on the domelight circuit? Do you know if there is anything else wrong with 50's car?????
We all know the electricals in Mitsu cars suck the big one no matter what you are trying to do. I always see Mitsu cars with bad door pin switches, power locks that won't work, and all kinds of other wierd things.
I suggest using the red/green wire found in the driver's kick panel. It is (-) triggered and should rest at 12v. Now, to avoid the dome light delay you can use red/white(-) at the door open indicator at the instrument cluster. The red/white will also catch the rear hatch.
Go to Napa, Radio shack or really anywhere that sells good relays and buy a regular 30amp smpt relay. It will have numbers on the polls and do this as follows.....
85 to which ever switch wire in the car
86 to 12v constant (make sure to use a fuse)
30 to 12v constant (make sure to use a fuse)
87 to your neons
87a not used
This way, when #85 sees a ground (like from your door pins) it will click the relay so #87 goes to 12v+ and you are done!
