I have a 96 Cherokee, 4.0 L straight six with 106K miles. I drove it yesterday with no problems. However, I go out today to start and it wont start. I pulled the dust cap off of the needle valve on the fuel-injector manifold and pressed the needle and gas come out so I think it is getting gas. Then I pulled a sparkplug out and with the wire attached to it and the base grounded, when cracking, I get no spark. Any ideas on what to check next?

Look at your coil, and the leads going to it. You should have a good 12v+ on the engine side of the wiring harness. Also, check your grounds. Tight and clean.

Could also be any one of several sensors. My 88 Laredo died only when hot (no spark). Turned out to be a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor.

HI, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MAY HAVE A BAD CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR OR CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. IF IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. PULL THE WIRE FROM DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND CHECK FOR SPARK COMING FROM COIL WIRE. IF YOU HAVE SPARK AT THE COIL WIRE, BUT NOT AT PLUG WIRE THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MAYBE BAD. IT'S INSIDE THE DISTRIBUTOR. HOPE THIS IS OF HELP. DALE
