I know this may sound silly, but how do you change a battery in a 1997 3.1 Lumina? Thanks

Please, how do you access the battery? I've changed batteries before but they were not hidden from view. :screwy:

The battery is located on the driver side under the window washer fluid tank. You have to remove the washer fluid tank and the possibly the air filter to get to the battery.
From there you'll now what to do.

Thanks motors. Think I"ll look into vintage cars where simple problems can be performed by simple minds. :banghead:

Yes, putting a battery in these can be trying. I have put hundreds in this style GM body, and its still a PITA every time. You will have to move a core support brace, washer tank, power distribution center(on mine anyway) and still probably have to flip the battery up on end to get it to slide out. Watch your fingers as you drop the new one in, as there is no way to do it without crushing some fingers. Then, if unlike me, you have long skinny fingers, you will have no problem trying to restart the threads on the cables back into the battery with the nominal 1 1/4 inch of space available. And don't drop the bolt for the holddown unit, you will never find it again! Good luck. P.S. most of the ones I put in were done outside the shop in sub-freezing temps, which adds to the joy of the job.
