I was wondering if it is possible to reset the service reminder countdown? The current coundown is for 15000 miles, is it possible to change the countdown from 15000 to have it start at 5000?

i dont think so. the miles you see will adjust to your driving habits so it does not mean you will drive 15k until your service. If you want to change your oil earlier i dont think bmw dealership will change the oil for you until it reaches 0 mark or at least once a year. Or you can do it yourself and buy the oil and filter and change yourself in between the mile countdown

Hey 323imankiks
What do you mean the miles will adjust to my driving habits? I have been changing the oil inbetween the dealer at 5000 miles, I was wondering when the warranty is over I can recaliberate it to 5000 so my wife can check on it instead on it saying 15000.

you can buy the service reset tool and reset the service lights yourself. the dealer won't pay for the change though, unless it is due. the tool is $100 to $250, the only thing is that the interval for all of the lights to go out won't change. i guess you will have to tell your wife to do what most people do and just pay attention to the mileage.

Maybe If You Try And Disconect The Battery For 10 Minutes It May Reset...

the mileage counter will count down according to cars temp mileage driven turning on and off of car it will deduct more in stop and go than highway miles computer will deduct mileage from these factors. I change my oil once a year car runs fine yes oil is dirty but does not burn or leak anything i use mobil 1 synthetic. Your new car warranty includes free oil changes i think ..i am sure you new that. yes you can buy the tool to reset counter and check engine light if it comes on and read the codes from the tool. i have the code reader and it is handy. BMW has set the interval at 15k due to the engineers figure the engine needs service at these intervals its not set in stone you can do it earlier if you want. As far as i know the intervals reset each time at 15k :) :2cents:

If you told us what year car you have it would be alot more helpful. The newer models you dont need this tool that everyone is talking about. All you do is hold down the milage reset button next to the gas gauge and do some other steps. If you have a older model then you will need the tool. Its very easy to use. Plug it in, hold down a button untill the light goes away.

'steve1103' I think your asking if you can alter the 'Service Indicator's talleying function/formula. No, you can't, it's not part of any of the vehicles rewritable software. sorry for the news, but great idea.

Hey sorry about that, I have a 2003 325i. I have been doing the oil changes inbetween what the dealers offers but i'm relying on my wife checking on the service meter (no offense to females but sometimes thats just not improtant on their list of this to do) so I figured if I can changed the countdown from 15000 to what I want it to start from then it's much easiler to all. Thanks for the input.
