00 Cav revving high at idle

My manual 2000 Cavalier Z24 has recently started to rev at or above 1400 rpm (sometimes as high as 2000 rpm), as opposed to the normal 1000 rpm at idle. It happens all the time now, while in gear, with the clutch engaged, or simply in neutral. The air conditioner is not on.
My check engine light is on, and has been for quite some time now, as I have prolly blown another sensor that the cavaliers are so famous for...that's a topic for another day.
Any suggestions as to the problem? Expensive?
Thanx

i think your fuel pump is probably going because thats what happened in my car and that would cause the check engine light too.

try fuel filter first... it would suck to spend the money on the pump and turn out that it was just a fuel filter... how many miles r on the car?

Best bet is to get it scanned. Sensor tag can be very expensive. Guessing rarely works-as you're playing chess with a hidden opponent with it's own bag of tricks.
