Ahhhh!!!! Engine replacement or get it fixed?

Hey dudes (and dudettes)...
let me start with: I'm a newbie. (And proud of it! Well, not really). Okay... so I own a second hand 1995 3000gt base and the timing belt went out at 95000 miles and took a few other things in the engine with it. The mechanics estimate about 3500 dollars in labor and parts and they also suggest just going out and getting another engine. Also, what price range should I expect this to be in? I'm almost out of money cuz I just changed the battery, the alternator, the alternator belt, and the fan belt, and put in a really cool in-dash cd/mp3 player with OEM display, etc. What would the other loving fans of 3000GTs/Stealths suggest? (By the way, if I can't get it fixed within the next three weeks, my dad is threatening to sell the car! Can believe the nerve of him! Hmph!) Thanks for any and all help.

I got an engine from this place with about 30K miles on it.. an it was around $950.. but a new one from a mitsubishi dealership costs 8 grand :(

Hmm... 8 grand sounds really high. But anyway... I got this guy who said that he would fix it for like 700 dollars and parts. So, I was wondering, he needs 24 valves and a timing belt. I know where I can get the timing belt, but are there like "aftermarket valves" or something like that where I can actually improve my car's performance while fixing these? Plus, he's asking 18 dollars per valve for 24 valves. Is that a fair price? Are these valves the same as blow-off-valves? Ahhhh!!! I have so many questions. Anyone who helps will be blessed a hundred times over!!!!! Thanks.

Blow off valves are on turbos

There are a crap load of valves on cars, the ones we are talking about are the ones where fule+air goes in gets burned and waste gases go out

i thought turbos had blow off valves?

Oh... I see. But does anyone know the name to the valves that are actually inside the engine which the timing belt often damages when it comes apart? Are they intake valves, exhaust valves, etc. etc.?

My car is in the shop right now.... i had a custom intake and i drove through 2 feet of water and locked it up.. i changed the plugs but as soon as i got it running it starting making an engine tick.. not the usual one either. I took it to the shop... the mitsubishi dealership and they charged me 530 to take the engine out and tell me what the problem is.. i think it is a jacked valve but we will see.... fixing an engine sucks asss and because of this i have to sell my car... well i replaced the clutch and all the hydrolics in the clutch last week, that was 1600. So if anyone wants to offer me some prices on a 1996 3000GT GT with 109,000 miles on it, just replaced the clutch.. it has racing tires yokos, i replaced the starter and the timing belt has been replaced... just email me at RCraft5@radford.edu if you are interested.
