J30 Vs V6 auto Mustang

Driving home from airport, I was stuck at a light and to my left (i was in the far right lane... there's 3 lanes on the street) a guy in a black mustang v6 looked over and rolled his windows down. He went 'wanna race to the next light?"
i went sure and said "when it goes green" and he nodded.
it turned green and i gave it a little gas... at about 85 he was struggling behind me about a car length, so i let off and let him catch up. Then i floored it to 5000rpm and i swear my car jerked back and just went insane. It was accellerating like crazy, and the mustang just couldn't catch me. I won by 2 car lengths and turned off to hillcrest to get home.
I like my small lil car... i don't really like bragging over a v6 mustang (since i don't believe mustangs should had even put anything less than a v8 in them) but it was nice to see my car accelerate like that.
i did have a question though... i'm going to be putting cold intake into my car upon recommendation from some buddy's here, but when i asked my dad about it (i'm 21 and he's like 48... he used to have a 65 firebird back in the day and helps me with all my mods and repairs) he went "i dunno, i don't really care too much for imports or newer cars, i'm more knowledgable on older muscle cars"
what does cold air intake exactly do? and does it improve gas milege or horsepower? or both?

well nice race, but just so you know i believe firebirds first came out in 67. CAI reduces intake restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. This allows your vehicle's engine to inhale a larger volume of air than the OEM air filter assembly. More air means more usable power and torque throughout the engine's RPM range.
hope thats right.

You are correct in the definition of cold air intake, and the Firebird, well, the first Mustang came out in '62 didn't it? The Firebirds and Camaros came out 2-3 years later from what i remember from history, which means a '65 Firebird would be correct.

The Mustang came out in 1964 technically. Most people will say the Mustang came out in 1965.
The Camaro/Firebird came out in 1967. The firebird is just a camaro with a different grille and a few other options.

Says the Firebird was offered 5 months after the Camaro, in the middle of '67.
