engine swap-not enough power

Has anyone attempted a newer 4.8 V-8, 3.8 sho V-8 or a sho 3.0 V-6 5-speed into a '93 Lincoln Continental?
the last two options are better than the underpowered Ford V-6, and also I'm worried about the extra weight in the nose spoiling the handling.
I don't want to fit the Taurus police computer.
I'd like to keep it all Lincoln if possible.
I want a little more balance in the power department, as the V-6 is only mediocre.
