I've noticed lots of posts regarding transmission problems with 95-99 Tahoes. My 95 tahoe now has 170,000 miles with the original transmission. I've started to notice some clunking in shifts, especially at low speeds. Any advice on what to replace it with if it does go??

I have a 99 Tahoe and have my transmission replaced, rebuilt, etc. The problem is simple but can be irritating to keep following up every 7 mths. to a year, with no cure. It is your slip yoke!! It needs to be lubed. Do not let the dealership charge you an outragious amount to do it. All they do is lift it and squirt some grease in it. 10 minutes max to do it. I have a place near me that laughed because they have heard about this so much, then they did it for me free. Now it is $25 bucks if I have to do it again. Try it! I thought my transmission was going to fall out it clunked so hard. Now it is smooth as silk!
