Tire Question.

I just purchased my first Land Rover. It is a 1999 Discovery 1 series. I'm sure later on in the life of my Rover I will have tons of questions, but for right now I only have one.

I wondering was is the best all-around tire to run on my rover. I'm in Alaska and I will be running on lots of snow, ice, gravel, and your normal off road stuff. Is there one tire for it all?

I would suggest the BFG AT/KO. Avoid any mud terrain tires - terrible in snow (in my opinion).

Other's I've heard are good: Revo's, Pirelli Scorpion, and a few others.

Thanks for the reply and the help. My name is also John! I will look into the bfg's. I appreciate the info on my Rover, I'm still learning all about it. So far I love it. Is there any other advice or tips you can give me? Should I run Mobile 1 synthetic or just normal oil?

I put GoodYear Wrangler MT/R on my '01 Disco, and transferred them to the '04 Disco I just bought. These tires are great in the muck we get into. They are a little noisy on the black top, but they have Kevlar side walls(you know, the stuff bullet proof vests are made of) and are one great off-road tire. I've had good success in mud, snow, ice, rocks and gravel. get a set of these and youre ready for anything!! :2cents:

Both the Wranglers and the BFG mudders are great, we've run them both on our D90. BigBadjohn is right in that they aren't very good in the snow. The Wranglers MT's are a little better than the BFG MT's in snow, but if you get either one siped, they improve drastically. We have also run BFG AT's on our disco and a GMC yukon, it is a very capable tire in everything. Not quite as good in mud, (but hey, it's not a mud tire...) but it does pretty good everywhere. The KO version of the AT is also really good, and I second BBJ's opinion fully there.

Basically, either way you go, you won't regret it, but if you get MT's in any tire, have them siped and they'll perform a lot better on snow and ice.

Yep - I totally forgot to mention siping as an option to greatly improve MTs in the wet stuff. I thought about it, but forgot to type it. :D
