Cheap Chrome

Just waxed my 2000 Silverado and had to comment about the cheap looking chrome on the bumpers and grill. As y'all know the Silverado is not a cheap ride so it kind of galls me to see how thin and poorly the chrome finish has been applied to the grill and bumpers. The chrome piece across the middle of the grill, with the Bow Tie on it, looks rough and has many imperfections in the finish. There are actually a couple of bug stains in the finish that won't polish out. Sad!
The finish does shine ok when polished but is no where near what chrome finishes were like in the 60's and 70's. Anyone else have comments?
Thanks,
MC

Mines not bad. But you can't expect the greatest quality chrome on Chevy or any other truck. Get it all painted to match the truck, that'll make it look great.

My opinion is, back in the 60's, the pieces were actually metal, dipped in chrome and polished...now its just a thin chrome sheet on some plastic...if you ever crack your grille, you'll see what I'm talking about..you can peel the chrome off like paper.

Yeah, don't get much these days for $30,000. Plastic with a thin coat of diluted chrome. LOL
I guess if I want chrome like the old days I should pull my grill and bumpers and have them dipped at the chrome shop here.

Have you looked at the Tahoe grilles? I think they look really good on a truck, and they're almost all chrome..

True, but they're still the cheap plastic that bothers him.

I have no problem with chrome plated plastic it just that when you look closely at the chrome grill on my Silverado the chrome is very thin and kinda hazy near the back edges. Looks great at a distance though.
