Looking to buy 93 Lude, speed questions vs. GSR

I'm almost sure I want to buy a 93 Prelude with Vtec but I'm not carving it in stone yet. I need to have a few questions answered. First one I have to get out is maybe just a myth, but I hear Preludes only take premium gas. Is this true? I honestly hope not 'cause the more $$ that I don't have a lot of.

Let's say we are racing two stock cars, a 93 Prelude Vtec, and a 93 GSR. I've been told the GSR will get off to a better start (maybe because of shorter stroke or lighter wieght?), but the Lude will have no trouble passing it up in 3rd gear and beating the GSR in the quarter. Is this true? I'm curious because a GSR was my other choice.

Also, do you know the weight of the GSR? I know the lude is heavier and I wonder how much the weight will affect it. The 4th gen Preludes redline at 7000, or 7500? Boxers or briefs? Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well about your question of boxers and briefs, go with boxers, all around more room, lol. Anyway I can answer one question for you in a way. I know that my 98' Prelude takes the premium gas only and I would guess it is that way with all of the models but I'm not sure so don't hold me to that. I'm sure somebody else will tell you for sure man.

Yeah the 4th gen shouldnt have much of a problem against a GSR (equal drivers both stock ect ect). I do think you need premium gas(only a couple bucks more to fill up tank)

If a Prelude and GSR were to race in the 1/4 mile, it would be a close race, but I think the Prelude would pull in the end. You are right, the Prelude is a little heavier than the GSR, but the higher hp in the Prelude compensates for it (Prelude 190hp GSR 170hp?). I used to have a Prelude Si, and I've driven a GSR before, and I would definately pick the Prelude over the GSR, but its a pretty close comparison. Like PTOWNPRELUDE says, its like boxer's a briefs. About the premium gas part, no, you do not have to use premium gas, but in the owner's manual, it says it is recommended. I started off using regular (with my '93 Prelude), and then moved up to premium, and I noticed my car ran smoother when I used premium. So its really another personal preference. But you don't have to use premium.

I had a GSR and i think they recommend high octane 91+ like on the prelude with Vtec also they recommend 91+. My gsr got stolen so i just got a prelude SI vtec for a good price and it has a lot more space up front but almost no space in the back. I could actually fit more people on the back of the GSR than on the prelude! Weight difference the GSR is around 2700 lbs and the prelude is about 2900 lbs... so big difference, but also big difference in torque and power. i am yet to push the lude to it's limits so i cant provide a comparison but i could definitely hear and feel the vtec kick in more on the prelude than on the gsr.

good luck. ludes are very rare to find too so i reconsidered of getting a lude instead of another GSR.

I personally don't think the approx. 200 pound difference between the GSR and the Prelude would make much of a difference. That's just like one extra heavy passenger the Prelude would have.

Also, I've been told the 93 Prelude redlines at 7000, but I also heard it redlines at 7500. Which is it?

And where is a good place to get aftermarket products for the car? Besides intake and exaust, I'm probably going to get clear lenses and maybe new head lights or something, just to give my car that look that it's not stock before I do any engine mods. Where is a good place to buy these?

The 93 Prelude VTEC redlines at 7400 or 7500 I believe, and the 93 Prelude Si redlines at 6400.

The differences i felt between the prelude si vtec and a GSR....

* Preludes large displacement engine doesn't hesitate as much as the GSR. The GSR you can feel and hear the rev to get a decent power up, on the prelude you don't hear it as much instead you hear a deeper growl -- better for a large exhaust. If you put a large exhaust on a smaller displacement engine it sounds nasty, but on a larger displacement engine it sounds better.

* Gsr seems to be more fun and stable to take on fast turns because of it's lighter weight and go cart style and predictable handling (I haven't tried taking very fast turns on the lude yet until i really get used to it)

* The lude's interior is wider and sportier than the GSR which almost looks like a Civic interior.

* Prelude engine has more potential for power when tuned

* Prelude has a larger car feel because it is bigger and heavier

* Prelude are rarer than GSR's

go with the lude!!! I think if ya fix it up right, it's one of the nicest imports out there!

1st thing....notice, your in a "prelude forum" and asking us if we'd pick a GSR ?? uuhhh huh....

also, go with the lude...originality is big man. GSR's are everywhere....
really nice 4th gen ludes...not so everywhere....

i would go with the lude. power compensates for the bulk. it should be an easy choice if you ask me.

The actual power to weight ratio is 93 Lude 15.07pd/hp to the 93 GSR
15.63pd/hp. Not a lot but still an advatage for the lude.
The GSR will pull to 60mph in 6.6 and 1/4 in 15.2 where the Lude will pull in 6.5 and 14.9. Not much but its better.
The Lude will redline around 7400 and the GSR at 8100. The Lude also has a shit load more torque even if the weight is factored in the GSR torque ratio is closer to that of the S model prelude.

In 0z with 98 Ron fuel a filter, exhaust system and chip I had my 93 lude up to 210hp in know time. It would pull to 60 in 6.3 and the 1/4 in 14.6 Now I aim for the 5 and 13 Barrier.

Besides all this the Lude is what we all care about so if you dont buy it rack off :flash:

6.6 sec for integra GS-R? i don't think so...
near 7.0 second will be more reasonable number.
I had 95 Integra GS-R, and now I have 99 prelude.
hmm. I like both cars...but isn't prelude sportier and better looking?

If I was you and have enough money for lude, i would go for lude.

Ask in the Lude forum and all of us will tell you to get a Lude.....ask in the Integra forum and I'm sure everyone will tell you to get the GSR. Really what it comes down to is you deciding which one you like better and making a decision based on that. :)

all Honda vtec engines require premium unleaded fuel.

The prelude will win top speed, the gsr will get the short race win. Really driver skill will be the determining factor.

Get the prelude.

Well I got my info from a very good book page 117 of the High Performance HONDA Builders Handbook by Joe Pettitt. So if Im wrong the books wrong. Either that or only certain people can actually obtain this great takeoff. :flash:

i just got a lude going from a gsr... but i am having a much more difficult time trying to get a perfect launch. seems like my gsr i could get it pretty easily now on the lude there seems to be a bogging down process, or the clutch is too high or something... hopefully just more practice... i hate that first gear. :o ... i feel like the 1st gear acceleration isn't as fast as it should be.

i beleive both cars need high octane gas. its just the way high output engines are built. What you've heard about the prelude being a little slower off the line is true but 3rd gear is deadly in the lude and you'll start to pull on gsr's as i have many times.

everyone in here will tell you to get the lude.. they are much harder to come by then the gsr and chicks dig em!
