A/C Problem on 95 LHS

Ok I've had my car for a year. Bought it with 123,000 miles if that makes any difference. Since I've had it the A/C doesn't seem to work right. It will work once in a while but I have to turn the fan power all the way up to get a decent flow. So here are the problems
#1) Doesn't seem to be providing as much air through the vents as it should.
#2) It's only cold if I don't use it for a few days then I go to use it. Also the temp outside factors if it works or not. Weird huh?
I took it to a local garage and they said it was some fan somewhere. Possibly an A/C fan or something? I'm not sure If I should trust them or not though so I wanted to see if you guys would agree with this possibility before I brought it in to have it done. August is the hottest month here and I need my A/C :) Thanks for the help in advance.
