Rear Speaker Replacement

Sorry, I haven't worked on the S-10 speakers ever. Any suggestions on how best to access the wiring going to the rears so I can wire in a new speakers/enclosure that will add some bass to the pathetic 4 X 10's that are now installed.

If you've been trhough this you can help a bunch:
1: DO I have to pull the whole back panels off to get to the wires or are they in a place where I can splice into them along the rocker panels?
2: If I have to get the back and side panels off, any tips are much appreciated.

Here are your options,#1 pull off the rear panels.This really isn't that hard,about the hardest part will be taken the seat belts off.The rest pretty much just pop off.Be careful not to break anything though.#2 and probally easier would be run new wires back from your head unit,granted you have a aftermarket stereo so you know what wires go where.I don't know what S-10 you have but mine has a console and it was really easy to pull it out and run wire under the carpet.Much easier and safer(if you know what I mean)than popping the panels off.I've done both before and both aren't that hard.Good luck.

I think running new wiring may have its advantages, thanks for the suggestion.

Definately run new wiring, it's much easier and you don't have to worry about splicing problems. Also, if you ever get rid of your vehicle, you won't have to worry about playing with the orig wires.
Next thing, replacement wiring is a much higher quality. You'll get much better quality sound, and the wires will be able to handle more power. Stock wiring is as cheap as can be.
What are your other plans for your system, ie. amps, speakes, subs?

Thanks for the advice on wiring. I wasn't looking forward to pulling panels off and trying to get it all lined up.

I have an 87 S-10 w. extended cab that my wife and I bought new, has 75,000 miles, engines been gone through and it's been repainted. PErfect for my 16year old son as he gets his licens.

I've found an enclosure with 2 12" subs and two horn tweeters that I expect to place on the floor behind the seats. I will hook it to the JVC CD player that is already in the car, is 5ow per channel so it should be ok. If ont, I'll add an amp afterward. I want my son to have some of his hearing left.

I still can't believe how lame 4x10 speakers are, and that GM would put that odd ball size in a vehicle. I had a buick in the 80's that had them as well; with some cutting and fixing, I mounted 6x9's and it sounded a whole lot better.

I think those 12s will need a litttle more than 50 watts.I would agree with you on the 4x10s,junk.Even worse than those are the 4x6s and GM uses the hell out of them.
