V6 conversion to V8?

I've ofter wondered if it would make sense to buy a V6 Camaro and then convert it to a built-up V8. What are the negatives and positives?

I figure you could prolly save a couple hundred a year in insurance. What about emissions - are they a different standard? Maybe it won't matter with the new emission testing the computer? Are there other items that need to be changed or upgraded when you change the V6 engine ot a V8?

Its alot of work to swap all of that over. The V8 has a different cooling system, suspension, and im sure the wiring harness would have to be changed either. Probably not worth the money you may save in insurance.

no, its not worth it, dont be that cheap on insurance and overall the z28 will be better instead of a converted v6, you'll waste too much money and time to do it... just get a z28 or ss

If you have alot of time,money,and patience then go for it. You might not like the V6 bodies suspension,gears,etc.. But it might be fun for a sleeper car. :evillol:

as a very rough estimate, it would cost 8 to 10 grand to do the swap. its a lot of work and requires a lot of patience and time. i think most of the guys on this forum go with the ideal that is easier, and cheaper, to sell your sixer and take that money and go buy a z28 somewhere. i plan on doing the swap (no time soon ofcourse) just to freakin do it, and be able to say that i did...

Thanks, guys - I think you answered my question. I have been thinking about the waste (removal of stock parts) of modifying a perfectly good low-mileage V8 when I could swap a whole engine instead (if I had a V6 or bought one). I was hoping that the insurance savings and the lower initial cost would pay off, but it sounds too difficult. Sounds like I better just do like everyone else and modify what I have, even if it means scrapping my V8 parts.

Yea... i have a V6 and I am currently in the process of swaping a 8 cylinder into it. I would have been a lot easier to start with a Z28 or something with a 305 in it, because the transmission has to go, the rear end needs to be changed to posi (doesn't need to be, but limited slip won't handle the power very well), engine mounts need to move, and some other little stuff. It is a lot of work, especially if you builing the engine from the bottom up like me. The reason I'm doing it this way is because I just happened to get this V6 at a pretty good price ($1000 w/bad transmission) and it actually works out to be cheaper this route (if you do all the work yourself). I bought this car with the intent of it being a project vehicle and so here I go.

if you want a sleeper just get you a z28 and take the badges off.
