Hey look, I hate to bore you but I have a situation of sorts. There is some chic, a groupie of sorts, who happens to have a 02 Escalade(stock 345 @ the wheels) I made the mistake, (intoxicated heavily), of betting $500.00 That my 02 Denali would school her in a 1 mile from stand still race...............after sober research, I found that I can't I need a few cheap mods so I can save face. Please held I am desparate....I'm sitting at 320@5000 RPM's

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ya I think you spoke too soon =). No worries did you know the escalade weighss more...but even with the extra weight you won't take the finish line before her. One thing is for sure ... she certainly wont smoke ya. The engines are very comparable. Got a good air intake? What about throwing an octance booster in your gas tank :). As for mods Im not really sure I don't like fudging up my yukon with all that extra stuff. Maybe cancel the race :)
Have fun

you can get a new computer chip and add about 50 h.p. or maybe more to the engine. you could also consider a K&N filter or even switching out the air system to an FIPK kit. those are two things that shouldn't set you back too much $$ but the air system is definitely cheaper (FIPK or new filter). however the new air system probably won't get you quite as much as the chip. or you could get both and get the engine up to approx. 390 b.h.p. if you really want to school someone Whipple superchargers inc. makes a twin screw supercharger specifically for the Vortech 6000 engine that will pump it up to 450 hp (approx) with the kit. problem with that is that it will set you back about $3500. just slightly expensive. how does the escalade have 345 hp. its the same engine? well i guess i can understand. chevy engineers have a 5.7 liter (the denali has a 6.0 liter) running at 405 hp. dont have a clue how they did it...but they did. hope next time you race you school whoever it is.

Ok lets see if I got this right.. you want to win but not use a lot of money? hmm hypertech tuner..reprogram gas octane, speed rating, firm shifting, and tire sizes would be a start, that will cost you about 300-400 depends on where you buy it. Now a good decent intake system would be good. More air = GOOD with that intake will you need an aftermarket exhaust or else you will lose power. Cause think the new intake will stuck more air in but that stock exhaust wont be able to spit more out because it was only made to spit out the stock amount. An intake system will be around 120-300 depend on what you get..I will recommend the K&n gen II comes with everything install about an hour. The exhaust will go from anywhere 300 and up. Custom jobs are expensive but gibson edelbrock and borla sell some really good quality exhaust systems. Comes in a set install by self about 3-4 hours. Now with the more breathing and computer program makes the engine run harder.. you will need a lower degree thermastat. Buy one for about 40$ at your local pep boys or auto zone. Your car should come with a stock about 180 degree thermastat try to buy a 160 degree. The install for that will be about 15 minutes. directions com with it so dont worry. Now if this is going to be a simple race just cut yopur cats off while your at it. :)
O yea a mass air flow sensor should help too. But every little.. You can buy it online for about 350 and installation is right between the air filter and connecting hose about 15 min job. So we got the intake, exhaust, thermostat, computer programming, mass air flow sensor.... also make small checks like air pressure and check you oil make sure it at a good running level. If you have time and really want to win then start taking seats out because the denali seats having heating on them making them weigh about 200 pounds each...this should help you beat your friend......

IMHO--instead of getting a Hypertech, invest a little bit more money and get a Westers; among other things, it'll do one thing that the Hypertech can't do, especially since Hypertech doesn't offer a PPIII for late-model Denalis IIRC--the Westers can be programmed to remove torque management. With TM removed, your starts will be a lot quicker...
