Just a week ago I'm driving down a road near my house and I get pulled over for doing 40 in a 25 (in my defense it was a long road worhty of a 35mph speed limit) btw im 17, and this is my first ticket.

Anyways I was going to get my obx header and a cat-back exhaust but I'm worried about getting a real ticket (aka 100 in a 60) I need a way to get my self back together, and back into the racing part of street racing.
I think I'm going to pick up a radar detector, and see how that goes.

yeah a radar detector will get your mojo back, but dont get a cheap one, getting a cheap on is like having a small mojo.

Get either a escort passport or an expensive valentine detector

So just drive the speed limit when you're not racing (especially in a 25 mph zone, those are usually conjested areas).

I'm not discouraging you purchasing a radar detector, just suggesting not to exceed the limit by 15 mph when you ain't street racing.

Yeah drive like 5 over when your not racing but def get a radar! That way when your racing you wouldn't have to worry about cops, you can worry about winning.

50 in a residential zone is just wreckless. If they catch you speeding like that in one you're garunteed to be screwed; hell 36 in a residential area pissed a deputy off at me.

speed limits are in place for a reason. usually, it's a good idea to pay attention to them...

and radar detectors only work if the police are running radar. they aren't ticket proofing your car, and usually if you do get pulled over and they see one, they'll find something to give you a ticket about.

I recommend that you get Valentine One - it saved us dozens of times during Players Run :)

radar detectors dont just intercept radars they also go if their is a cop in the nearby area because it listens for traffic on the radio signals they use, and if they hear traffic that means theirs a cop nearby. The detector can only hear within like a 1/4 of a mile radius.

I've heard that the new passport is about as good as the valentine and a hell of a lot cheaper so i'll get that one. I have dropped my speed for everyday driving but I'm still wary to race. I'm sure a month from now I'll get the detector and I'll be able to race again.

your eyes are the best radar detector. you just gotta learn where the cops like to hide out, what their headlights look like and learn to look for the light bars.

it does help to not go more than 10 over the limit except when your racing.

and if all else fails, learn every street in your area REALLY well so you can duck into a random driveway if a cop does see you...saved my ass once so far

"usually" i.e. school zones and residential streets

but, if you aren't paying enough attention to see a cop driving on the street... you probably deserve the ticket/warning/whatever that you'll get. but yeah, the radar detector should really only come in handy for speed traps. i'll shut up now.

As a general rule, anything more than 15 over is just stupid (unless you're racing.) Plus, anything more than 15 over and you get a public endangerment or something like that as well as the speeding ticket. My parents won't let me get a detector, they think it's like a permission slip to speed...

I do find it ironic that AF guidelines state that illegal activity is not endorsed yet they have a forum that encourages kids to break the law. This could result in a lawsuit if this does not change. Just a warning to the admins.
I bet they are running around right now questioning what to do witht themselves. No where on this forum does AF endorse racing on public streets. They have a forum for street racing, but no banners saying race. They know the auto enthusiasts would not be complete without this forum, so they added it.
As for your lawsuit....I doubt it will ever happen.

Cops have a thing called instant radar and u really cant pick it up untill they hit u or they hit something very close to u. Although i have been saved in wv comeing though the the hills where the road is cut out and rock on each side and the radar bounced off the walls and hit the detector. 1 more thing radar detectors like any electronic device admits a signal (not getting technical) cops can pick that up and know u have a radio detector (they have a radio detector detector) which u are more likly to get a ticket for the pure fact, they screem to a cop i speed! valentine one and mybe he passport would be they only way i would go! o one more thing if ur cop is a jerk and wants to catch someone he can somehow change the frequncie/band cant spell of the radio and sense ur dectector can only detect certain bands ur screwed but thats also illegal for them to do! If any of this is wrong plz correct me.

This forum encourages nothing. It's users might, but they are not affiliated with the owner of this site. If I come on here and say, hey go out and smoke crack...I doubt the Narcotics agents are going to be attacking this site.

I don't think this forum tells anybody to go do anything.

I see this forum as a medium for communication, It's the same as if you and I met in a parking lot and I told you about a race I just had with some tool.

I'm not telling you to go race. I'm just sharing a story with you.

you don't know much about civil law then. This part of the forum facilitates the discussion and possible encouragement to engage in legal activity therefore the site can be held liable for bad things that occur as a result of engagement in the forum. If there was a forum about smoking crack and other users encouraged the use of crack, the site owner could be held somewhat responsible in civil court.

 What are you a 1st yr law student?

There are like 10000 other racing-related forums/websites out there, how many can you sue? You want to pay for all the legal fees?

if all else fails
http://www.beatmyspeedingticket.com/no_ticket.html

Laws are a vast and complicated thing, nowadays there is almost a loophole around every loophole in the system, i can't say i myself know a lot about but i've caught the jist of it from quite a bit of research. you can sue the hell out of people for very stupid things these days that are really your responsibility

comparison - fat people sue McDonalds for "making them fat"
Street racers sue movies, internet forums and other companies because they were seriously injured from street racing.

Imagine a street racer sueing NOS, Greddy, or any other companies because they 'sold parts to him to make his car faster' which was the 'reason' he was injured. That would be simply shitty

HighRev87
08-03-2004, 10:23 PM
Exactly...it seems lamehonda plans on bringing AF to court :sly:
Anywayz...lol
Yes there is a loophole for almost every law, and AF would get out of it. As a sidenote, there are many forums dedicated to drug use.

Blaming racing on a forum is just idiotic. It is not concrete enough, like hypsi said in another anonymous forum, to place charges on the forum. Thats also why there is a disclaimer at the top of this page. Radar detectors don't stop idiots from getting tickets. They help intellegent people avoid them. Street racing is not driving as fast as you can everywhere. It is a speed contest between two cars on the street. Some idiots might do it in a residential area, but for the most part, most of us do it where is is unlikely going to turn into an accident.

chevytrucks92
08-04-2004, 02:14 AM
I think sueing a forum over street racing would be like a car buyer sueing GM for producing a Chevrolet Corvette that is capable of 12 second 1/4 mile times and 170+ mph becase they got a speeding ticket in it!
