what is the diferent from high and low compression. Can someone explain why low compression is better for turbing up. i got a ls b18a with 270,00 miles should i try building and turboing or should i drop it.
ps. what engines are high and what are low compression

when u turbo, it forces more air into the combustion chamber. if the compression of the chamber is already high and you force more air into it, then you bust your engine. it can only take so much compression.

yeah, low compression allows more boost, while higher compression gives you more power in NA setups. there are limits as far as tunability and drivability at both ends. also if you got 270k miles I wouldnt do anything to it until I gave it a full rebuild. Id never throw boost at an engine with 270k on it.
for examples, B20B is 8.8:1, thats low, and the RSX type S is 11:1, that is high.

yea thats why im doing a ls turbo, so i can get that massive air induction into the combustion chamber with low compression. Damn i do love type r all motor.

also remember to use higher octain gas as the compression goes up to reduce chance of detonation and carefull with jdm's they run higher comp than there usdm counterparts you can run high comp and forced induction but you should sleeve it or run low boost.

that is why i'm going to turbo my b20b. gotta love the 8.8:1
