Hi all,
I recently installed an overhead console into my 99 Cherokee. I managed to get one from the local junk yard for just $20. Everything on the console works fine (Compass/current MPG/average MPG etc.)
The temperature simply reads 'OC' becuase I don't have the Temperature sensor installed. I'm due to go back to the junk yard sometime this week and thought I would look around to see if I could locate the outside temperature sensor.
My questions are..
"Does anybody know where this sensor is located on a Cherokee?"
"Does anybody have any pictures or diagrams of it so I have a visual of what I'm looking for?"
I have conducted a whole bunch of searches on the web but cannot find anything about the Cherokee temp sensor (have found info on the Grand Cherokee but it doesn't apply in my case)
Any help you can give would be appreciated,
Thanks

I'm looking to do the same thing. Can anyone help me insure I get all the parts from the junk yard? I'd really like the temp display to work.

I haven't done this on a Jeep, but I did it on my Chevy Venture (see link below).
Chevrolet Venture Outside Temperature Sensor (http://www.my-chevy-venture.com/install-outside-temperature-sensor.html)
What you probably need is the "AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR" and it will probably be mounted somewhere near the front of the vehicle. Of course you will need to find (or make) the wiring between the display and the sensor. I did a search at rockauto.com and found the sensor for about $13. I would try to find one at a local parts store. These sensors are typically a "thermistor" and are pretty basic.
Take Care,

I just installed this on my 94 Cherokee Sport. There is a temperature sensor that mounts on the lower core support, right in the center, just behind the front bumper. The wire from the sensor ran up to and plugged into a pre-existing plug on my Cherokee, right underneath the underhood fuse box.

Was there an existing wiring harness in the headliner or did you have to install that too? If so, where did it run to?
Thanks!
Thanks!
