Hello,

I have a question I am driving a 95 Ford Taurus GL and it keeps trying to die after I start it. I put new spark plugs in it and new sensor on the top and I still can't figure out the problem? Auto Zone said it could be numerous things but it is getting old. I will try to start the car after it has been running for awhile and it will not start it will try to start and then it will die. Umm someone said replace the o2 sensor because it doesn't seem to be burning all the gas off. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated if you have any other questions you can email me at [email protected]

Thanks

It could be almost anything. The O2 sensor is one thing I have heard referred to in the past. However, I had a problem once with a Dodge Caravan. It would run fine for a while, and then die when I let off the gas pedal. This seemed to occur mostly when the engine was hot. I told it was the "throttle body" which needed repaired/cleaned. I don't know exactly what that is and never understood how it functioned. Anyway, it took care of the problem. But as you stated, there are many things that may be the problem.

Pulling the codes out of the EEC-IV computer is your first step. Check out http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html for instructions on how to do this.

Ignore the "it's getting old" comments; I have an '87 Taurus wagon with the 3.0L and 170k miles. It purrs like a well-stroked cat, and never runs too hot even in the hottest weather, with the A/C going full blast. I've just learned how to take care of it and fix things.

Dan can you tell me how to take care of it and common repairs you've had to make? I'm considering buying a 94' wagon lx w/ v6 3.8l and 135k

Also where can an amatuer get started on learning how to use an OBDII?

See my post.
