yea, basically what happened was
altered atomsphere and gtpro both agreed to be paid sponsorships for the 3/S national gathering this year. Well, they kept saying they would pay the money, and national gathering time came around and they still had not paid the money. Now, i know with GTPro, Jeremy, the coordinator of the national gathering told them that they would need the sponsorship money now, or else they would not be allowed to advertise their products or even have their truck in the parking lot with all the people who attended, because it wasn't fair with the other paid sponsors. Well, GTPro decides to have their truck parked there anyways, Jeremy pretty much just told him to leave, and they got into it, all the details are on 3si though.
So basically, they both agreed to be paid sponsors, and didnt come through, and now Jeremy has been in a big hole because of the money he lost since they did not pay, but a bunch of 3si members were helping him out.
If you read the whole story, you'll see why not to buy, especially from GTpro, cause i dont think its right what they did to Jeremy.

i never really bought from gtpro anyways, only thing they really had for our cars were the gtpro series turbos, but i'd rather have the dynamic racing series rather than the gtpro. Seriously, the only turbos that are better than dr650s for the td04 turbos are the gtpro 368's, but if i was to spend 3500 for turbos, i might as well save up another 2 grand and buy the dr1000 kit, which also comes with headers, o2 housings, lines, the works, on top of turbos which will well outpower the 368s

What do you guys think that the best turbo upgrade would be to get on a 3000gt while still staying street legal?
YogsVR4
08-02-2004, 11:02 AM
I don't think there are any turbos made that will make the car illegal on the street. However, unless you have beaucoup bucks to put into the car, 15g are a good choice. The fuel system will need to be upgraded but they are among the best bang for the buck out there. 13g are cheaper and don't need the fuel system changed (and save even more $$$).

Where can I get one from? and how is the spooling time on them?
Igovert500

15G is the best bang for buck if you wish to stay 100% streetable. The lag isn't bad at all, they are great for street and strip, and don't sacrifice too much one way or another. After 15G turbos, you don't gain much on the strip by upgrading, but they don't lag enough to be a problem on the street. They are what I plan on getting.

this link is a good read if you plan on upgrading your turbos. As well at the bottom it has a list of places that sell them.

where can I find all the information on the 15g turbo, because all of the sites just say that it is a direct bolt-on turbo
3GT96
08-02-2004, 01:45 PM
also, are you sure that it is a good turbo upgrade, because im looking for something that gives me a big power boost, but with small spooling time, like between 2700 and 3000 RPM

is not the T88-38gk the strongest turbo for our cars?

a T88 is a huge ass turbo, its what supras use on single turbos. I would not recommend a single turbo for our cars because you have to reroute the exhaust manifolds to the side of the block, and greatly increasing lag, plug you have to do soo much customization, its hardly worth it. The DR1000s will prove itself once matt monet gets everything running again. Remember, he ran an 11.1 @ 130 @ 21 psi @ 5,000 feet, and his supra buddy who normally runs a 10.4 at sealevel tracks ran a 11.3 @ 5,000 feet. The only reason he only ran 21 psi is cause he hit maxed out his 880cc injectors.

what would be a better buy, the Dr500's or the Dr 1000's???
Hotshot8792
08-03-2004, 02:07 PM
the dr1000s are if you are looking for tranny bustin power. They are a twin T3/T4 turbo kit, with new exhaust headers, O2 housings, etc, cause you have to have new ones with a different housing turbo. The whole kit will cost $5500 or so. The DR500s are good streetable turbos, and bolt directly on the car, they will cost around $1500. Now, if you want a turbo that will give you just a bit more lag, but give you even more top end power than the DR500s, the DR650Rs are a good choice, and have gotten 3/S's into the 10s in the 1/4 mile with the proper mods and a small shot of nitrous.

where can I find someplace that sells the dr650's becasue dynamic racing has the 500's but not the 650's
Hotshot8792
08-03-2004, 09:47 PM
dynamic racing does sell the turbos, look under turbo upgrades on their site. LOL, they are the only ones that sell the turbos, DR650R is a DR series turbo, in which DR stands for Dynamic Racing.

sry, I was looking in the wrong section lol the 650's look nice, but how is the spooling on them??

What GT PRo did has nothing to do with 3SI.
What GT Pro did was screw with the 3S National Gathering. Two seperate groups. GT Pro backed out on their sponsorship lat minute and then when they came as participants to the event they broke the rules of the event with their 55ft(aprox) billboard on wheels. Which was not only against the rule but against promises that Brian PERSONALLY made the the people that run the 3S NG.
AAM is the different story. They have not paid money they ove from the 2003 3S NG.
Full details can be found in several threads on 3si.org and this does not need to be further discussed in this thread.
Back to the topic on hand.
Turbos
How fast do you waht to go and what can you efford?
the answers to thoes questiosn will tell you what turbos you need to get.

If thats the case I'll look at the products from Dynamic Racing.
Cars with DR650's have proven the turbos are capable of 11 second passes.
To support them you will need:
Larger Injectors
Fuel Management
Fuel Pump
I'd also recoment tools to monitor your car:
EGT guage(s)
Datalogger
And of course the bpu mods
open element filter
downpipe
boost controller
boost guage(the stocker is joke)
gutted/hi flow cats.
Their are probably more details but some searching sould get you the details.
Expect ot have spent over 5000 by the time your done. (easy)

sure, you can run the dr500s without fuel management or a datalogger, but then you wouldnt be able to run but 11 psi because you'll still be on stock fuel components, and if thats the case, i wouldnt even bother spending the money to upgrade. If you upgrade your fuel at all, you will have to get a fuel management system, and a datalogger, you dont necessarily have to get, but is definitely a nice tool so you know that you aren't running too lean which would cause your engine to blow

I have not used them from everyting I've read they are not laggy at all.
I've heard of people running them on the stock fuel system. But, that will li8mit you boost to stock(or less levels) which kind of kills the reason for the upgrade. BUT, as long as your planning on doing the rest of the upgrades your good to go.
The DR500's are good turbos with supporting mods maxed out they gotten low 12's and some hi 11(with a good driver).

so what you are saying is that unless I upgrade my fuel system, I won't be able to run 15 PSI?
