A company called AISIN from Japan
qoute:
In many respects, the Touareg is similar to the pricey new Porsche Cayenne. The basic packages are built on the same assembly line in Bratislava, Slovakia. But then the Cayennes go to Leipzig, Germany, where they get engines, transmissions and suspension systems. Both vehicles use a six-speed automatic transmission designed and built by AISIN, a renowned Japanese transmission manufacturer. But Porsche's engines and suspension systems are unique to the Cayenne.

The V6 used in the cayenne is a VW unit.

The V6 cayenne has a different intake and exhaust system which gives it 30 more HP. The same basic V6 is also used in the VW Golf R32 and the Phaeton.
The V8 used in the Touareg is from the Audi A8 L, not a downsized Cayenne engine.
