Dirt track drifting?

I was talking to one of my friends who just saw drifting on the TV (TLC channel). The show was called "Rides" and this week they had talk/showed drifting and this years D1. Him and i both go to dirt track racing every saturday night. The racing is 3/4 midgets. Pretty much like the big and powerful Out-laws with the wings on top only a smallier verion of it. Anyways, he knows i'm about ready to buy a 240 and he knows i love drifting and after him seeing drifting on tv he understands it a little more. So after the show he asked me if you could dirt track drift? I said i dont know...never herd of such a thing. At first i didn't like the idea of it. But if you think about it, it could be like "real" concrete drifting only on mud/dirt. But think about it, you have to have the technique to go around a turn and get close to a wall with out hitting it and still at the same time not have any traction. The only thing is you dont have to lose traction on you rear wheels to side. You jusr turn hard and try to make your back side...or you could try to do the clutch technique on it. I not sure on all that. And the other thing is you wouldn't have any smoke. But it would be a good way to learn now to control the car under little to no traction. I mean concrete drifting is the all out best. But i just trying to think of a cheapier way to get some practice on getting close to plyions or walls. Then when i can find a place to concreat drift (normal drifting) i'll move on to that. So what do you guys think of it? Give me some feedback. I can see how it could be fun and it could work great...then i can see how it could suck. If you have anymore questions on how it could work then just ask. I'll try to answer them. I just want to see what you guys think and if you think it could work out?
P.S. If i were to do that i dont think i would use a super nice car. I would use like a $1500 or less S13 or some sorta cheap RWD car. Then when i go to normal drifting i would use the nicer car(s) like a S14 with all the goodies and SR20 in it.

Well, the word on the streets is that most of the popular drifting techniques used today, were developed by off-road rally drivers. They will definitely work just the same, if not better (less traction) but make sure you either drive a shitty car, or prep your car for it. You don't want mud and dirt destroying the underbody of your car. o-)

Well what i'm looking at doing is buying a 95-98 240sx se and doing a S14 SR20DET swap with a S15 front in conversion...make it a daily driver drifter and then have a cheap S13 for the dirt track. I dont think i would do many mods to the S13. Maybe intake and exhaust...but i cheap intake and exhaust so that way if i break something or a pipe on the exhaust system i wont have a worry about it to much becuase i didn't pay a butt load for it and the same go's for the car. If i hit the wall i dont need to worry alot about how my car looks. It wouldn't be my daily driver so i could pretty much do whatever i wanted to do with the car. But after i get done drifting i would clean the underbody really good. So in otherwords...i would have to cars. I dont even know if i would put tags on the dirt drift car (S13).

Riiiight, all this from the 16 year old making 40 grand a year. Look, when will you be able to race your S13 on the dirt track? I know in Kentucky, or wherever you live they have drive-thru beer stores, but do they really let anyone on the dirt track? And for your plans to have a good looking daily drifter, let me tell you this, you will rip that bodykit off your car, you will break those S15 headlights and you will realize that it's not that great of an idea after all, oh and that's when your not complaining about your brand new 200$ a piece tires are bubbling and dripping off your rims. I know you play Initial D and Gran Turismo, hell I played every car game out there and I love video games, but this is the real world, and I don't care if you have a FWD automatic 3000GT, you don't know what the real world is.

Initial D? Never herd of it...here can you get it at. Sounds sorta cool.
You guys need to wake up and see this is the real world. I'm able to do alot of things that most people are not able to. You cant see that this is the real world...altho this is my dream...i make my dreams come true...not just sit around wish it would be real. Theres a differents with me and most people.
Where would i drive on a dirt track? I have alot of opitions...one is at tracks...my dad and i know all of the 4 tracks that we go to. They would let me practice anytime i want. But if that didn't work out...i live in Kansas where land is cheap. Plus i live in a small town. So i could just buy some flat land...somewhere around 40 acers and for that around here it $12000-15000 plus in the winter my dad will use the open land for our business so i'll be able to write all the taxes off. And since my dad will be useing it in the winter he said he would buy half of it...so that only $7,500 i would have to pay. We have 3 skidloaders to make the track. As you can see...with some time and saving some money i could make this work.

WOW...you remember pretty good logik!
I dont mean to say 7k like its nothing...50 bucks means alot to me. So it will take more then 2 weeks to get 7k. But in a year or alittle more i should have my S14 with some mods and my 3000GT sold and i hope have the land. Right now i'm putting in 49.7 hours a week (just added my hours up 20 minutes ago)...and i have been doing that for about 2 months now.

So with putting thos types of hours in i can save up for stuff...and i have been saving for some time now. But my labor is not where i make my big money...its from owning my own bees (100 hives)...and this year i should get $12,000 from honey sales. And $5,000 from pollination of almonds in cali. So far most of my labor has gone back in to buying more bees(hives). Thats where i'm lucky...most of you can't start owning your own business little by little. And who all do you know that gets 17,000 (not from labor) ayear? Last year i had 40 hives...now i have 100. The cost of 60 hives is 6000. So that means i have spend $10,000 on bees. But becuase i was smart and reinvesting in to the business i will gain more money. Most kids my age get the money and spend it right away...me...i save it/reinvest. Its just smart thinking.

If you're going to abuse something in the dirt, just get a Mustang or a Camaro. It'll probably cheaper to buy one of them, too.

HAHA...dude...thats funny..."if you want to beat the crap out of something buy a stang or camaro". I liked the way you put that. I'm not a big fan of domesits...i'm not saying they are bad...i just like imports more...but if i were to beat the crap out of something it would be a stang...thanks for the idea.
BTW...is there anyone becides me that would dirt drift with a beater car...not like D1 style cars...just plane and old cheap and RWD cars? Think there is a chance i could make it a circuit for newbi's to drifting? Like Jeff Gordon race at the Belleville High Banks Speedway (Home of the worlds fastest half mile dirt track) he won the Midget Nationals on his 18th birth-day. At first Jeff was a dirt track racer...then he got better and moved on to Nascar. Could i get a circuit going just like that? Where first you dirt track then when you get better you move on to Formula D type drifting? Not saying thats the only way to get in to D1 but its moreless a practice time only you win money and prize. Think i could try to get it going? Would you guys enter if it was around your area?
The Midget Nationals were last saturday...they were pretty fun to watch. I live 18 miles from the track. So its not that far from my house.
