Ok, I've been looking for a F-body for a while now, so my mom saw one for sale yesterday and I went to look at it and bought it. It's a 94 V6 Automatic. Anyways it's got high miles and body damage, but even with it's faults, I really like it. (It's a whole lot better than a new civic or sunfire!) Ok, the engine has like 170K miles, but it still runs strong and pulls hard. The thing is that it seems to have some problems when I just start it up, so I figured you guys would know what the problem could be, and give me any suggestions you want.

Ok, here's the problems:

When you start up, it idles a little rough

When it idles, if you turn on the air conditioner or defroster, it raises the rpms a couple hundred

When you start, it smells like it burns oil, but when you check it, the car doesn't leak very much

So, if there's any thing you guys could recommend to help it, that would be great.

1. it idles rough because it is cold
2. rpms are supposed to raise when a/c is engaged, its a computer thing, they raise because you are now putting more drag on the engine
3. my car also smells like burnt oil until it warms up, i don't believe that's a problem...

My car lets out a little puff of smoke when I first start it up, well its not little but whatever. I think its just from the high mileage. The valve seals are probably just worn and let a little oil leak by.

When you say it idles rough, what does it idle at?? Does it hold steady or does it fluctuate alot??

When are you gonna post some pics of the new beast??

I'll post some pics up in a while, I don't have any money to get a digital camera now, I payed for it myself, unlike my other friends. All I have left now is 10$ after I bought wax and car wash. It wasn't sitting for long at all, I bought it the day it was listed for sale. The guy got about 20 calls the day it was for sale, but my mom called him first to tell him to hold it.

When it idles, it stays at about 1200 then jumps to about 1400-1500.

How much would the valve seals cost me to get replaced?

Valve seals would be somewhat expensive because you have to remove the heads and take them to a shop to get fixed.

Does it really burn that much oil though?? Drive it around for a while and check the oil level and see how much it burns.

He had it for sale on the lot across from where my mom works, and between the time my mom called me to tell me to call him, and I called him, it took like 20 minutes because other people were calling him about it. You have to remember that the price was low enough that I could buy it myself, and I'm only 16.

I just don't want it to leave a smoke cloud whenever I start it up everytime. As long as it doesn't damage the engine, I can stand it burning a little oil. As far as money goes, I have family that can rebuild engines and all of that stuff, and my family has been going to my mechanic for years, so he lets us make payments if the price is too high to pay at once.

Well like I said drive it around for a month atleast and see if it really does eat up alot of oil. My cars been blowing off a little cloud of smoke when I start it ever since ive owned it and it doesnt affect the way it runs.

my dads tahoe had 2 broken valve guides, they wanted 2 grand to fix it, so I said what if i take out the headers and bring them to you, and it only cost 200 bucks.
