I just purchased a used 2001 Camaro Convertible. I have been experiencing an intermittent high pitched sound coming from the area of the gas tank. I suspect it is the fuel pump? Is this a usual problem with this year Camaro and if so is it a sign of more problems to come? The car runs great but the noise gets loud at times and is annoying. Lucky me gets to drive the Trailblazer but the wife is going nuts!!!! Like I said it only occurs on occasion.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is true. If you continuously run your tank low it will burn up the pump. The noise may be the pump going out. Fuel pumps are either there or they arent. When they go out all you can do is call a tow truck.

do you hear the noise while in operation, or on startup. im not trying to be condisending, but when you turn the key to the 'on' position, the fuel pump primes the system and makes the noise. if not than you prolly do have a pump on the way out. good luck, its a biotch to swap; costs a pretty penny if a shop does it...

No, it has to go in the tank.

actually you can use an in-line pump, but you'll have to remove the one from the tank first, then make an extension tube to go where the old fuel pump was.
