Anyone else notice that the whole jdm look is starting to phase out and being replaced by the 'euro' look? 4th gens are kinda at the starting roots of jdm inspiration, when imports really started to take on there own being and accually started to be able to do stuff that was never done before (mainly due to the intoduction of fuel injection and vtec systems). I think jdm for newer stuff (post 1996) is pretty much dead. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

JDM will never die out, JDM is about having a clean looking car with a one tone paint job with no graphics, thats what people are trying to make their cars look like now, clean and pretty.

JDM is about having a stock looking car with a few more little treats like power locks and windows. It's about trying to get back what you lost out on by buying usdm. Maybe when everyone and there brother needs to stops trying to half ass 'pimp
there ride' so real hobbiests can stop having to look across the ocean for new and differnt things to do to there cars.

I don't think you could get any cleaner than stock. Besides, I'd rather spend my money else where like in the engine bay and suspension. Personally I don't care too much for heavy modified body kits and paint jobs. I would like a perfectly restored factory look save for some light tinting and maybe updated Honda Wheels.

JDM has nothing to do with clean cars.. I dunno if its dying off a bit, I could see that eventually demand for really expensive parts that are marginally better would die down. I don't know if thats happening yet though.
But clean cars will be a style forever. Lots of older cars go for flashier looks while some chose to remain clean.. There will always be people who want something that looks nice without being extravagant.

JDM is about having a car that was manufactured for that market... so until you guys learn to drive on the right side of the road... suck it up :D
Seriously, I'm with SiZ on this, it's about modding to Japanese market specs - nothing to do with a clean look.

eh, im glad all the hype is dying down....i'm about sick and tired of hearing stpud kids say "this cluster is mad tite jdm yo, you cant get this in the u.s."
then i kinda laugh and say...great another stupid kid that doesnt know how fast he is going because he thinks kmh is the same as mph....dude you got ripped, the only thing i consider worth while jdm is there engines, i think its stupid to pay extreme amounts for a STOCK part that is only slightly different, yea, if i could obtain jdm part cheaper, i would have gotten into the whole craze....but the prices are insane...
sorry for the ramble...just my opinion

JDM has nothing to do with clean cars..
Perhaps no one remembers this thing http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=847741
Nothing 'clean' about that... and that's as JDM as it gets.

I think it is SOOOO cool to make your car look like it came from a country that you dont live in and will probly never even visit. It would be nice to see people do their own thing to their own cars and make their own style instead of following a cookie cutter mold. Does anyone know if in any other country the USDM style is the "fad" because I could go for selling my stock DX parts for way to much money?

i disagree with SiZ and Setanta and agree with Red Shoe Boy...
a lot of people go with the jdm look because it is cleaner looking than a huge spoiler, body kit, neon lights, and graphics up the side. JDM is a stock look but not stock to the US. it's the ultimate clean look :)

I think there are many mixed oppinions about about "jdm" is. I think here in america it has taken on a whole new deminsion of its own.
I personally think it is the art of looking clean, fast, sophisticated without looking overly extravagant and without giving into the ricer look. I think it is about using the parts that were never available to us, because alot of times there is more to offer in factory parts - no matter the orgin- than there is in many poorly designed aftermarket parters that have no history or backing.

Ami... cool - we get to disagree :D
If you look at most cars on the JDM performance side, drifters, drag racers, street racers etc, most cars have all of the above after a few days. When we import cars over here from Japan, we have to spend a lot of time de-tuning them and removing things that are downright unsafe.
Pics from meets in Japan show cars that are totally wild - not stock at all.
Meh - JDM is over-rated anyway. I've never understood it personally. I like my car the way it is because it's different and more upmarket to what we got here - the fact it's from Japan is a bonus/side-effect.
If anything, JDM is USDM hype and nothing else ;)
BTW - no - no-one else copies USDM... especially after we saw what you Yanks did to our Holden Monaro when you destroyed it turning into the Pontiac GTO :D

everything is somehow labeled "JDM" these days.. any part made in japan is labeled as "JDM".
JDM is nothing more than parts that are factory equipment on japanese market cars.
IMO, some "JDM" products look better, such as the SiR EF front end etc, but some people are downright stupid about their JDM addiction. paying $200 for a fucking ashray because its a "rare JDM piece". Get off the "JDM" nuts and mod your own shit your own way.

my cars CDM.
yay.
like i said earlier JDM hondas got some sweet goodies that our cars were left without. I don't blame the people who shell out a lotta cash to get stuff like seats or armrests, hell i'd pay 200 bucks right now if i could have a half decent cup holder in my car.

Maybe it's because I am getting older but I am not seeing as much JDM modded cars as much either. Seems like it died down in the past few years.
I also think it's because of the newer cars are less modifiable. Maybe it's just me.
I just remember the Civic's, Integra's and Preludes were easier to mod.

Well considering this thread is 11 years old, yeah the whole JDM look seems only to apply with 4th gen civics and also Integras. Newer cars are quicker, doesn't take much modification to make them faster.
