A Computer Question?...

I have Pakard Bell ( i know, its sad). the year is like a 98. And i believe the motherboard grounded out. I talked to this guy and he said you could probably fix it by putting rubber on the back to "insulate" it. So i let him try it for me and he messed it up completely! So now im thinking if i can just go find the same motherboard and take my processor out and put it in the new one and then be alright. If you have any advice on the matter i will GREATLY appreciate it. p.s. i had alot of beef with some hackers before it went down. Is it possible they could fry a motherboard???

Unless someone messed with it the motherboad should not have grounded. The proper way to install a mobo is with big "screw" type spacers to have it "float" above the backside of the case. So there should be no way to ground it out or short it out, unless someone doest something to it.

So are you sure the problem did not originate someplace else?

Also if your procesor is standard then yes you should be able to find another old mobo and install it on that. However considering you have
a brand name compuetr the chanches are very hight that a standard mobo will not fit.

Bottom line though, since the comp is from 98 don't bother. Its probably a P1 or an early P2 and its not worth fixing. Just get a new one.

Best deal is to get an XP on an Nforce2 with built in video/sound/nic this way you don't have to spend on other cards.

I say get a new comp. Since you already got a monitor a new comp would be pretty cheap.

what if i get a cheap computer and hook my old hard drive with all my data up to it. would that work?
