We are in the middle of changing out the timing belt on our 4runner and were wondering is the crankshaft bolt a left hand thread? We cannot get it to budge and were wondering if we are tightening instead of loosening it??? Anyadvice on how to get it off would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

right handed thread use long handle breaker bar and brace against driver side frame rail dissconnect coil wire so engine wont crank anf then bump starter over a couple times should break bolt loose engine turns clockwise so breaker bar should rest on top of frame. hope this helps.

Helped out my neighbour who has all the tools. Impact Gun and all and couldn't get it to budge until he tried this method...............It worked and he now owes me a fishing trip. This was a 1992 4runner
Thanks

I have a "calibrated" piece of angle iron with two holes drilled in it. That comes to rest on the blacktop, or frame, then I have a half inch breaker bar with a "cheater pipe" slipped over the end and it snaps right off. I also use throw-away bolts to mount the angle iron, they usually bend slightly.

Not too sure about putting that much torque through the starter gear reduction or the starter drive gear and ring gear on the flex plate.

You still need the "right" tools to torque it back correctly.
