I'd rather have the RX-8. It's cheaper, it seats four fairly comfortably, it's lighter (and therefore handles better, although the Z is no slouch at handling), and it's unique. So what if it lacks power, it's fun to drive :)

well... the 350Z is very unique as well. Dont you think?

Yeah, it's pretty unique in the styling and platform department, but c'mon, the RX-8 has a rotary engine. How many of those do you see on the road? Almost none. :)
I know you're probably gonna buy a 350Z soon, and I'm not trying to dissuade you from the 350Z, I'd just prefer the RX-8.

although noted 18 mpg from rx-8, during traffic, it's a heavy gass guzzler compared to z. and the break-in period in rx-8 is tedious. also not as decent looking as z IMO.... and 4 doors sports car?? and from what I heard, low torque in the low-end. but uncommon and different? definitely. 160 lbs lighter than z hatchback.
if you're getting Z, i'd recommend track if you're going for hatchback, otherwise get the convertible, they're all 2 seaters anyway.

track is a bit too much $$$, im getting a used one and i was thinking on performance or maybe touring ( with quite a god difference in price from the trck edition)

RX8. It's more comfortable than the Z, more practical, lighter, easier to drive and much more original than the Z.
So definitely the RX8.

more comfortable how? Yeah extra seats but anything else? Seat wise i mean...
Lighter or not the car is STILL slower than the Z so it will need much more than weight excuse to compare against the 350Z. And last question. Is it REALLY easier to drive? give me some specs cus i havent test drove the RX-8 yet and would like some info on it. Thanks and i appreciate it.

The hardtop 350Z looks great, but the convertible looks _horrible_ with the top up. The cloth top ruins that nice Porsche 911-like hard roof design and the car ends up having a bubbly cloth roof and an ultra-long rear section.

^Not appealing to me :disappoin :disappoin
I would never buy a convertible sports car if a hardtop version of the same car existed anyway... a hardtop car is just sportier.

This pretty much proves it you are Clarkson. Should I do a traceroute to see if you are posting from england or are you tunelling trough a non-transparent italian proxy?

Well I think Mazda really dropped the ball on the RX-8. The thing should not have 4 doors and they should have had the option of a turbo....Period I'll take the 350Z in a heartbeat.

GTO4Life, just test-drive both, you'll see what I mean. I know the RX-8 isn't as fast as the 350Z, but the thing can REALLY handle, it's super fun to drive, and it has the practicality of four doors. And yeah, I felt that the RX-8 was more comfortable and funner to drive. Sometimes, there's more to a sports car than raw power.
Looks is an issue too. I personally think the 350Z looks horrible compared to the Z cars of old. The RX-8 is very sharp looking. Even though the extra set of doors kinda ruins the sports car image, they make the car a lot easier to live with.
