Heater no go

Hello I have a 1990 Gt Starlet and the heater has stopped going all the fuses are ok first thing i checked but all I get is cold air. The engine is a 4efte and I need some help as I have only ever delt with a 4age motor.

can anyone help? and is this a common fault with the car?
