Finally got access to a scanner, these are from the pictures of my Z that I drive around with in my 240. And if you think thats sad, before I had the Z I drove around in the 240 with pictures of the 240.
But first...my first ride...

It was a $15 dollar bid, there was a 24.50 registration transfer fee and I had to pay the sales tax on the 15. It was like forty something bucks all added up.

Well this is a good enough place to post these so here are some pics of the Z with engine out.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/8325/2scan0001.jpg
Got the car up on jacks with enough clearance to pull the engine, it was getting dark when we got it out.
http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/2935/2scan0002.jpg
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8018/2scan0005.jpg
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/9026/2scan0006.jpg
These three show the empty engine bay, its not as bad as one might think, only about half of the wires and hoses are attached to the engine, the others are Super HICAS, powersteering, AC etc...
http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4885/2scan0003.jpg
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/3973/2scan0004withnotes.jpg
And the hole in the side, its kind of hard to see but if you start placing the parts in the picture you begin to realize how much damage there was. And the second one should read "those bumps and holes shouldn't be there." But I'm not undoing both minutes worth of work.

dang man, that's pretty nashty looking, what caused it to blow anyway? just get worn out and couldn't take it any more or was there some excess boost being pushed through there?

Previous owners were running it hard at 16 psi of boost on a basically stock motor. It had a JWT ECU but thats nots going to help blatantly abusive driving. Anyway, all this beat the engine bad enough that one of the connecting rod bolts on the number 1 piston started to come loose. There was just a very faint knocking sound as I drove it away from the bank I signed the papers at. Sounded like just a little valve train noise, nothing serious, could barely hear it. It didn't really get any worse then it lurched like you stomped on the clutch and let off it really quick. Then there was a bang...then another...and it died. There was an off ramp right there, on an otherwise shoulderless, exit less stretch of I-5. Got it towed and jacked it up, there was a hole in the bottom of the oil pan where the remains of the connecting rod half exited, half wedged themselves in the hole. And as I was looking at it, the nut that had come loose dropped out of the hole. Could see where the last few threads where stripped off and everything. I put the nut on the key chain.
Anyway, the engine blowing aside, I got just about as lucky as I could have. I found the exact year, color in and out and with the basic mods that I wanted. For 6k under market price too. And now I can do everything I really wanted to do, aka turbo upgrade with all the good stuff. I consider myself really lucky actually.
