Suspension question

Just found this on SLP's site http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?PARTNUMBER=96315

"Shocks/Springs, Front/Rear, 1993-02 Camaro/Firebird V8 T/O (set)

Looking for a cost-effective way to restore your car's original ride and handling characteristics? This "take-off" suspension kit contains a full set of OEM shocks and springs removed from stock V-8 F-Bodies as part of the Camaro SS/Firehawk program. All parts are in virtually new condition, with approximately five miles of use. Save 15% over the cost of purchasing these parts individually!"

Since this is a LOT cheaper than an aftermarket suspension kit, was wondering what if anything would happen from putting the z28 suspension on my v6 (like if it would be detrimental to the ride height or handling).

Ya the front would sit higher because the v8 springs are stiffer because the front end if heavier.

how much? one of my friends said it wouldn't really be a noticeable amount.

it wouldnt sit higher, the stiffness of a spring doesnt effect ride height. the ride would be tighter cause the eighter springs probably have a higher spring rate...

But the springs are designed to support a heavier car and if you take out that weight would it not raise?? If you put 100 lbs worth of salt in the back of your car it drops, so when you take them out it comes back out.

Would it not be the same difference between a v6 and v8 engine?

i was thinking that dober, but now im thinking maybe the stiffer springs can hold up more, but they're the same height. like uh.... trying to think up a good comparison
basically both are same size the stiffer one can support more at that height than the not a stiff one... dunno if this is making sense.

the spring rate effects how much the spring compresses under load, but the number of coils effects the ride height. if you put a sixer spring on an eighter car it would sit lower cause the spring rate isnt as high and wont support the weight as much. thats why people that are stupid cut their springs to lower their cars, and then their cars bounce down the road cause it changes the spring rate...

so if you put eighter springs on a sixer car...

Ya if you put v8 springs in a v6 car would it not sit higher beause the little v6 doesnt compress the springs as much as the v8 would?

so confused
lemme rephrase the main question here
Would putting z28 springs on my v6 RS make the front end sit higher or not

off the topic here.... 97CamaroRS I think your icon, of the cat is kinda disgusting. I saw a program on the discovery channel or something some years ago about how over in Japan they stuff these animals into small containers like that just so that they can sit them on their mantle, as "art." I'm not an animal rights activist, but I just think that shit is fucking disgusting. Nothin personal.

no, the ride height would no be effected. however i wouldnt recommend putting the eighter springs on your car cause the spring rates are calculated for the different vehicles. if you want new springs i would just go find a set that are made for the v-6. i know eibach makes a couple sets, bmr fabrication has a set, and i believe hotchkis (sp?) makes em for the sixers...

besides you can prolly find eibachs on line somewhere that are cheaper than the slp springs. also, those springs you have listed are OEM replacement. i dont know if you are looking for those or aftermarket...

I would go for that man but this stuff needs replacement, all the aftermarket kits are in the nieghbordooh of 6-700 dollars, with tax these are $90.10

why are you under the impression that your springs need to be replaced, out of curiosity...

rear bottoms out on many bumps and turns (with weight in the back)

OK well all 4 corners as of yesterday have the z28 shocks and springs. Rides so much better, smoother, not really a noticable hight increase, and handling is a little more sure.

excellent, glad to hear everything worked out for you...
