My '89 camaro RS wont start. I have a new battery, new alternator, and a somewhat new ignition. It doesnt turn over or click, just the temp. gauge goes up when I try and start it. I have had this problem before but it started up after a few tries and some jiggling of the keys. Does this sound like a starter problem? maybe the solenoid? Also when I tried to jump it everything lit up (lights in dash, headlights, etc.) then went dead when I began to turn keys in the ignition.

your 89 should have VATS. do you have a spare key that you could try?

I think it's shorted out somewhere. Has anyone had similar problems or can give some recommendation to diagnose?
