Aftermarket pcm question

i'm sure you guys have seen on pfyc.com and such, those aftermarket pcm's for GP's. They SAY they require premium gas....but do they REALLY need it. My car is on the cheap stuff 87 octane. If i were to get one of these, would it screw up my car or something? does the pcm calibrate for the knock / retard or timing for the premium fuel?

also my second question is what pcm's are the best to buy if i ever wanted one? digital horsepower i have seen mentioned here alot. and if any of you guys have an aftermarket one did you see a difference in power?? thanks a ton guys! love the forums!!

The best way to answer the first part, YES. If you add a smaller pulley, YES. I know you are going to hear both sides of this but when prem made it to $2.00 a gal, I tried reg, once! That made the last time. Hope this helps

What is your car a GT or GTP??????? because if you have a GTP you should have been using premium all along.If they say to use premium for the PCM on a GT then thats what you should use....im mean come on, its only going to be about 85 cents more on a fill up :wink: and as far as aftermarket PCMs go, ive heard alot of good things about DHP and also the new one from Intense. www.intense-racing.com Ive had the GPS PCM since 2000 and im still using it.

Ive got both a DHP pcm and a CYA pcm. I'd say go w/ DHP.

I ran 89 when the gas was over $2. As long as your not a total tool and dont race the car you'll be fine.

Big L, I live in Florida. Can find reg for $1.83. But Prem is about $2.08. But Sunday the State is droping the tax by .10 Then the price of oil will go up $20.00.
So the difference is about $4.00. Still you have to run what you have to run. As I said, tried reg. once and only once.

another popular question by everyone in the car business...if i start putting hi grade fuel 91 octane or w/e it is into my car would it start to knock and act weird??? b/c it's had 87 octane it's whole life i believe.
