I had recently saw a thread that was asking if you can get 400 hp from a v6. Yes you actually can. The best V6 engine to work with is a 4.3 liter vortech engine from a chevy s10 or a blazer. I am currently have a project camoro im working on. it is a 1985 camaro, and the engine is from a 1995 chevy blazer with 120k miles on it. If you bore the engine 60 over, then it will easily produce 285-315 hp just for it being bored over. You can also use cheap aftermarket engine parts for it to easily make it 400 hp with out breaking your budget. Also in order to get the engine to fit, you will have to convert it to electric cooling fans, and get a big block hood. the stock vortech alone produces 255-265 hp as being stock. so it won't be hard to get 400 hp out of a 4.3 liter vortech.

Squeezing 400 hp out of a 4.3L isnt as easy as you think. 400 HP is a big number for an engine without a turbo or a supercharger. Just boring it 60 over wouldnt give you that much of a power increase.
If I were to take a v6 I would much rather have a 3.8 turbo charged like that of the turbo trans am.

the 4.3 makes 180 hp
edit * 96 and up there are 3 different versions 175-190hp. before that they had a 155 hp version, a 165 hp and a 160 hp one.

To get 400 out of a 4.3 you need alot more than boring. The oldtimers rule is basically Hp greater than cubic inch makes the cost skyrocket. So a 350 sb can get up to around 350 Hp without costing alot of money. However if you want 450+ the cost really increases.

so you're saying it would cost a lot of money to bump my hp up 31.9 to 231.9

Apparently you are just talking and getting info out of your butt. The Vortec 4.3 doesn't produce 255 - 265 hp, it like 180- 190hp depending on the year. And boring it .60 over doesn't give you 50hp extra. You guys need to seriously think about what you are saying before you talk, some people know how to work on cars in here.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is possible to get 400 HP from a v-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek2: NO FUC$IN way!!!!!!!!!!! I wish someone would of told me about this
:slap:
We all konw that it is possible, and boring out .60 over is not going to give you that big of a jump.
Also Dober69, give respect where respect is due. The 89 TTA is a Buick GN engine.

4.3 is approx. 262 cid.
No, I am saying that is what the oldtime rule used to be. There are exceptions like superchargers, nitrous, etc...
Most people grossly over rate their hp ratings so that oldtime "rule" may upset some people who don't have alot of money into their naturally aspirated engine and are trying to say they have a huge amount of output. I have heard enough braggers out there claim their engines have all kinds of power. Someday I would like a chassie dyno.
