my brake lights are kidding me!

When I went to the mecanic to show my brake lights aren't werkin he put the steel to press the brake pedal and look at the rear he said brake lights are werkin fine, it might be the sensor or the release switch were there sometimes got lock on , or one of my bulb has a loose contact. whats going on?
