timing issues?

I swapped a d15b vtec engine in my 88 crx si. It cranks over, but it wont fire up. I know I am getting fuel because I loosened the fuel rail and fuel started spraying everywhere. the distributor is the stock TD-42u which I believe also in on the d16z6. the distributor is new, and I KNOW I am getting spark. The firing order is 1-3-4-2 correct? I am stumped. could this be anything but timing? oh, and one more thing I stayed obdo so I kept the 88 intake so I wouldn't have to fool around with wiring (except the distributor wiring, which I believe is color matched). any help would be appreciated

Have you tried that little connector by the starter.Its a little plug if thats not in the car wont start.Also try checking all your grounds.The one by the thermostat is the one that gets me all the time.

just because you got fuel to come out of your fuel rail doesnt mean that its getting into the combustion chambers. Could be your injectors or a cloggled fuel rail or something. After cranking it for a while take out a plug or two and smell for the gas. Let us know what happens then we'll throw you some more suggestions ify ou need them

the problem isn't the starter because it cranks over. It just wont start.

I am getting fuel into the cylinders, it backfires once in awhile and I get a huge blue flame out the headers :iceslolan cool, yes. supposed to happen, no. any other suggestions?

um ... the car only has one header...and i dont think it is sepposed to backfire... check your timing one more time..

The distributor firing order is (#1 cylinder at the bottom left) 1,3,4,2, in a counter clockwise motion, looking at the dizzy... good luck

*edit* #1 cyl. is the one all the way to the driver side of the car(only if your in a LHD car...lol)

okay, so I have the firing order right. hmm.....well, since the d15b vtec is obd1 and I stayed obd0 I am starting to wonder if I just wired the dizzy wrong. I just spliced the same color wires together. Is this wrong?

you can use OBD1 distributor with OBD0 ECU. the components inside are different.

I know that part. I was just wondering if there is a certain way to wire up the distributor

Hrmm,
have you pulled all the plugs and lined them up then cranked them to see if they are fireing in order?

Is your timing belt on correctly? TDC on the crank and cam are the same?

Was the motor running before you put it in?

dang...beat me to it...you ALWAYS beat me to the punch...

Anyway, yah, like dxdude said...you CANT use that dizzy with that ecu. Ur gonna have to convert to OBD1 or swap on and modify the A6 dizzy for that head
