Alright guys, here is the story. my 95GSX was diognosed with CW 4 months ago. its on its last leg and its time. I have thought both ways as far as putting in a 6bolt or just having a shop rebuild it. I live in Oshkosh WI and not many places know wnough about the 6 and 7 bolt motors to do a swap and the rebuild is cheaper.SO i have made up my mind to just go with a rebuild. Does anyone have a website with a CW rebuild kit or somthing? because if i just give it to a shop to rebuild i know they will just put in shitty pistons and rings and all that crap. any help?

Mach v has a rebuild kit but I'm not sure if other procedures are neccesary for the cw issue http://machv.com/enrebsup.html

Just so you know, as I'm sure you already do, rebuilding a 7 bolt is risky business. Odds are it will CW again. I just helped my brother swap a motor for a kid that had CW. He picked up another rebuilt 7 bolt on ebay and we installed. It has already crankwalked. So not only is he out the 1000 bucks in labor, but also whatever he paid for that motor. Now a 6 bolt swap is looking pretty good ;) ITs not that hard. I heard RRE sells an adapter for the 1g cas now, and it only takes 15 minutes to modify the drivers side motor mount. I know it seems like a daunting task when you dont know in your head how it is all done, but I dont see a big difference between swapping the 7 bolt, or converting to 6 bolt. half hour more work...
Just a thought :) Do whatever seems best to you.

i would say go with the 6 bolt swap too. just for a peace of mind. also u can get the short block pretty cheap from a junkyard or something(i got mine from ebay for 330$ shipped-160$shipping lol). the swap is not so complicated , although u got to make sure u got all the parts first. the CAS is not a biggie (like Kevin sayd they already got an adaptor for it). the motor mount bracket u can cut easy too. the thing you will need to think about is the oil filter bracket(they are different with each year) and the front water line to the turbo(on 2G the line is coming from the block itself and on 1G is not). while u got everything apart u can change main and rod bearings, along with the oil rings, but if u dont know what are u doing i wouldn't recomend so.last thing . after all that you will need a 6 bolt flywheel ,so why not upgrade. the hole thing is goin to come up to about 6-800$ doing it yourself. than you are flying again...good luck

Hi there,
I was searching the net for and engine builder to rebuild my BB 454 and found your thread from 2004.
I am from Oshkosh and currently in Iraq. I am going to have me engine rebuilt when I return this summer. Who do you recommend?
Thanks,
Rus

I am going to have me engine rebuilt when I return this summer. It is in my 89 GMC 3/4T R2500 Suburban. I currently have swapped the TH400 for a 700R4 and installed an Airgap manifold topped with a Holley 4010 600cfm carb. I obviously cut the computer and have a stand alone MSD distributor and coil for ignition. My goal is to rebuild the engine to get a mild increase in power and squeeze out max efficiency in terms of MPG. Yes with gas prices, I am sure you have heard all about trying to get max MPG. I also have a set of 2.5 inch headers (brand unknown) and a pair of stainless mufflers for the when I get to the new exhaust system.
I made friends with a builder in Texas a few years back and he made recommendations on the cam, manifold and carb size based on my goal and his research on BB combos. I have the Isky cam kit (valve springs, roller lifters and 1:7 Comp alum rockers) but do not recall the part number of the kit.
I am open to your suggestions, Thanks
