ok i have a 92 firebird with a 3.1 v6, auto. but i want to put in a newer firebird engine and 5 speed tranny. at this point im not sure which one, any suggestions? how hard is it to get everything lined up, gauges still working, and so on and so forth. oh and out of curiosity how many arms and legs would your average garage charge for this kind of work? did anyone in here do it before? what are some of the common mistakes that people overlook? and any tips would be apreciated. i know i may of asked a lot of dumb questions but everybody was here at one point. thanks to whoever posts replies.

Hey man, I ask a lot of dumb questions, but I sure nail some good stuff too. :)
To answer you question.
I think that most of the v8's would fit in it, however I am not certain to whichones, if at all, would be a bolt on type of job. Now you might want to look at (I belive 4th gen started 1993,) 3rd gen, and if so than you can go with a 350 easily, even a 383 (I heard that one somewhere on the forum).
The shops charge an incredible amount of money (bout 2000 dollars) just to install your engine. Its absurd. However, I have a friend that is a mechanic and although his boss retired and closed the shop he still does work and excelent work at that. He did all the labor on my 305 heads for 250 cant beat that. However he is in colorado, so if you are from CO, than we could arrange something!!!
I know this is farfetched, but I wish you good luck nonetheless.

first off thanks for replyin to my message...i didnt think anyone was gonna. i guess cause im new to this forum, and it was a pretty far fetched question. i guess its just i want a bigger engine cause if you see my car its not junk. looks pretty sharp i think ( heres a link to see it.... http://www.cardomain.com/id/firebird9t2 ) but then you lift the hood and its just disapointing to see a lil v 6 stuck in there with so much room for whatever. and i know im gona have the car for a long time..cause i have a beater truck i put the miles on and i store my bird during winter. i just want to know how you go about ok say after you bolt in the engine and tranny. i mean how you keep your gauges working right and its just over whelming to me cause ive always been more into auto body...and engines is just greek to me. thanks for the offer...but unfortunately i live in pa. but....if anyone is around the harrisburg region of pa and wants to make some money and has some knowledge...let me know..haha but i doubt thats gonna happen. thanks to whomever reads this.

In your car I am sure you can directly bolt on a 350. The body is made so that it fits a 350 (I think you can bore it to 383) And I think your tanny should be ok. Now concidering the guages and stuff I would have to say that getting a computer re-programed or just getting a new one, should do the magic. I think that it pretty easy to drop in a new motor, it will take a day or two, but you could probably do it.
The only thing I would look at is if your tranny would support the 350 (which it should) since its for a V6 motor.
Good luck.
