As the title says ...whenever the a/c is on the car looses power. it will accelerate slower and it will gear into shift roughly. when the a/c is off the bump between gears isn't so noticeable. Is something i can do? i replaced the air filter and it has a new motor .(Escort 94 1.9 Automatic)
It also has the check engine light on..codes :
172-lack of HEGO switches,indicates lean
332-EGR valve opening not detected
could this be related to the problem? How about some new spark plugs?
any thoughts?

no you cannot do anything about it. the AC just robs the engine of power like a thief, just like auto trans. so dont expect to blast your way on the highway with AC on. I was a bit disappointed wen i turn on the AC on my escort like last week cuz i was so used to the power of non AC......

Take it to a dealer to have those codes checked out. 172 sounds like you have an O2 sensor going bad, which can affect performance/mileage. 332 sounds like either you EGR valve, sensor, or pump (solenoid thingy?). A dealer can tell you for sure, but it might cost about 60-80 bucks.
