So I'm trying to cut down on some pounds and trying to get my six pack. I've been running every other day at least two miles, and on the days i don't run i workout and do like the bike or stepper 10 mins at a time. My gf mentioned that jump roping is a better workout than running because it burns more calories and works more muscles. I think i've heard this before, but i was wondering if its true. i would much rather jump rope cuzz i get bored running, plus im trying to do alot of leg exercises now to help my verticle and i know jump rope is great for that. What you guys think? Should I drop my running in favor of half hour of jump roping? Oh and on a side note how much of a workout is basketball considered? Do you burn more playing basketball for an hr than runnin 20-30 mins? I know its very circumnstational but in general which is better between runnin and bball?

the problem w/ jump rope is that in a true aerobic workout, your target heartrate should be maintained for 20 min or more. If you cam jump rope for 20+ min, then go for it, but i would recomend doing both. Asw a general rule though, 3 min running = 1 min jump rope. As far as aerobics go, jump rope does bring in a lot of other muscles tho. And if you play ball hard for an hour you would probly burn more calories tha n running for 20-30 min (when running you burn about 100 cal/mile depending on your size), but you have to be a little intense w/ basketball to get the same type of work out.

with b ball the sprinting from end to end hard would probley be better then jogging at a slow pace

yeah i would love to go biking, but i guess that requires a bike first. :( I know austin has a ton of great places to mountain bike so I think it;s something i definitly wanna get into, but right now I'm trying to get the best workout during my hour lunch at work. So I would think my only options are jump roping and running.

I would jump rope for 10 min and then run for 20 right when you stop. The jumprope should accelerate your run to make it feel more like a one hour run. :2cents:
