Broken Odometer

Ok, my odomoter on my ESi has been broken since I got it, and I finally decided to mess with it. I came to the conclusion that when the spot farthest to the right (how much of a mile) gets to 9, it stops and doesnt roll back to 0. Basically, it goes 0-9, and stops. Looking at how it works, there's gears that turn it, blah blah. But, I couldnt figure out why it wasnt flipping back to 0 after 9. Any ideas or am I on my own with this one?

I thought it was a spring that made it go back but there's different designs for guages. For example, my Eagle Vision uses some sort of spring system (I think) while on the Impala, it's all mechanical. the eagle's are much slower than the impala's gauges.

Check Out To Where The Cable From The Odo To The Transaxle Or Tranny Usually It Is A Small To Medium Sized Plastic Gear That Breakes And Is Relatively Inexpensive Usually Covered In A Black Box Check Next To The Shifter Cable. The Same Problem Happened To My Friends Eclispe And This Was The Cause

Just to update this so people who actually know howto use the search will get an answer.
My mechanic told me that the gear must have broken, if the thing stops at 9. He said to goto a junk yard to get a gear.
-What I did was removed the gears.
-Place the one with the problem all the way at the 100,000 mile mark. (The 1 in the 100). My car has 81,000, so itll be awhile b4 it gets 100.
-Put all the gears back after that one, and it works fine then.
